The organization has 380+ team members distributed across the globe, including people based in the USA, Canada, Japan, Hungary, Nigeria, Brazil, the UK, and other locations. Candidates who are curious, empathetic, accountable, and excited to contribute to fast-moving growth are encouraged to consider the role.

Role Overview

Alpaca is hiring a Data Analyst to help build a data-driven foundation from the ground up. This person will work closely with teams across Finance, Operations, and Compliance to create core data models, dashboards, and detailed analyses that support everyday decision-making.

The role suits someone who wants genuine ownership, enjoys working closely with subject matter experts, and can quickly learn complex brokerage concepts. A strong candidate will not only report on what is happening, but also investigate why it is happening and how the business can improve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to convert ambiguous business and operational questions into clear analysis and actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain analytics data models using SQL across PostgreSQL, Trino, and Apache Iceberg to support financial metrics, dashboards, and analytical processes.
  • Create and refine metrics and tables with dbt, then publish them in Metabase to help teams track transaction volume, revenue, and system performance over time.
  • Use SQL as the main analysis tool, and apply Python in notebook environments such as Jupyter when deeper investigation is needed for trends, anomalies, P&L calculations, and trading patterns.
  • Improve how data is operationalized by identifying opportunities to standardize core business entities and move recurring ad-hoc analysis into self-serve workflows.
  • Support reporting operations by handling requests promptly, documenting repeat reports, and helping standardize and productize reporting processes.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Solid SQL knowledge, including joins, CTEs, window functions, and well-structured queries across multiple database systems.
  • Exposure to analytics engineering approaches, especially building metric tables or analytical models with dbt or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical judgment with the ability to investigate data carefully and draw practical conclusions.
  • Comfort using Python libraries such as Pandas and NumPy, along with Jupyter Notebooks, for deeper analysis when needed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and act as a connector between data systems and business teams.
  • Willingness to learn the details of a broker-dealer environment, including clearing processes, execution workflows, and accounting standards.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive pay with stock options.
  • Health coverage.
  • One-time home-office setup support of USD 500 for new hires.
  • Monthly stipend of USD 150 through a Brex Card.
