Role overview
Banner Health is looking for a Data Scientist I to support reporting and analytics work within the Medicare Stars Strategy department. The role focuses on turning large volumes of data into practical insights that help improve outcomes, operations, and profitability. You will collaborate with different stakeholders and teams to support business decisions and strengthen performance across the organization.
This is a fully remote position, but candidates must reside in Arizona. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The work shift is daytime.

What you will do
- Provide data and analytics support for a defined business or subject area.
- Work with large datasets and apply quantitative methods using advanced analytical tools.
- Perform detailed analysis to generate recommendations that support competitiveness in outcomes, operations, and profitability.
- Address data issues that may be complex and escalate them when additional help is needed.
- Partner with stakeholders and functional teams to improve business results.
- Handle standard assignments while continuing to build knowledge of the role’s concepts, procedures, and practices.
- Solve routine problems using established methods and evaluate possible solutions as needed.
- Respond to non-routine requests from internal or external customers with support from others when appropriate.
- Make day-to-day decisions within guidelines while managing priorities and deadlines.
Minimum qualifications
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Health Services Research, Process Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
- Three to four years of hands-on experience, or equivalent, in inferential statistics, A/B testing, machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis in healthcare or a similar environment.
- Experience working across functions to act as a liaison and provide guidance or leadership.
- Strong project management ability, including the capacity to work independently and manage multiple large projects.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong technical background with tools such as SQL, SAS, and Tableau.
Preferred background
- Experience with process optimization, clinical workflows, population health, public health, disease prediction, readmissions, imaging analytics, and inpatient/outpatient monitoring and alerting is preferred.
- A Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience is also preferred.
Compensation and workplace information
The posted pay range is $35.37 to $58.95 per hour. Final compensation may vary based on relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, and internal pay equity considerations. The stated range does not include the value of the total rewards package.
