Role overview
The Attorney-General’s Department South Australia is seeking expressions of interest from experienced legal practitioners for the role of Deputy State Coroner. The appointment is intended for lawyers who have at least five years of standing.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a Magistrate and then allocated by the Chief Magistrate to carry out the functions of Deputy State Coroner.
Key duties
In this position, you will exercise delegated administrative and investigative powers and responsibilities of the State Coroner under the Coroners Act 2003. You will also take part in the Coroner’s Court and conduct inquests to determine the cause or circumstances of prescribed deaths.
Candidate profile
Applicants should have the qualifications, experience, and personal attributes expected of a Magistrate. They should also be familiar with the jurisdiction and day-to-day practice of the Coroner’s Court and the Coroners Act 2003.
