Job description

Job overview

H&P is seeking a Derrickman to support rig operations in Saudi Arabia. This role centers on the mud system, related equipment, and hands-on work across the rig site. The position also involves supporting the driller and wider crew to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow H&P’s core values and safety expectations in day-to-day work.
  • Support and guide new Floorhands as they join the crew.
  • Track mud pump performance, replace wear items when needed, and carry out routine pump upkeep.
  • Apply lockout/tagout procedures correctly when mud system equipment is being repaired or isolated.
  • Check drilling fluid condition in the active and reserve mud systems and carry out basic analysis based on direction from the customer and service companies.
  • Watch pit levels, move fluids into and out of the mud system, maintain solids control units and piping, manage tank and pump valves, and monitor flow from the wellbore to the mud system.
  • Coordinate roughnecks and roustabouts during maintenance and repair work on mud-system equipment.
  • Report any changes in drilling fluid status to the driller, including volume, flow in/out, temperature, contamination, cuttings issues, abnormal flow behavior, and leaks.
  • Provide the operator representative with an inventory of chemicals and fluids used for drilling fluid treatment.
  • Notify the driller about changes in the condition of pumping equipment, solids-removal systems, mud-mixing units, and cuttings-handling equipment.

Derrickhand duties

  • Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly servicing of the overhead equipment in the mast used to lift tubulars in and out of the wellbore.
  • Work from the derrick board roughly 100 feet above ground during tripping operations to rack and remove tubulars in the mast.
  • Inspect equipment visually from the rig floor to the crown section, take corrective action where possible, and immediately report issues to the driller.
  • Show a clear understanding of blowout preventer equipment and be able to operate any part of it when instructed by the driller.
  • Keep assigned Workday training current.

Skills, knowledge and working style

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and H&P internal applications.
  • Strong teamwork mindset and the ability to work well with others.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong commitment to H&P’s values: Actively C.A.R.E., Service Attitude, Innovative Spirit, Teamwork, and Do the Right Thing.
  • Solid awareness of H&P health, safety, and environmental standards, including COACH, Compass Cards, LifeBelts, JSAs, hot work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and dropped object prevention.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of solving problems in changing field conditions.
  • Able to comply with H&P policies and follow applicable local, territorial, state, federal, and Saudi drilling/HSE requirements, including reporting and audit expectations.
  • Capable of working effectively in indigenous environments.
  • At least 2 years of prior oil and gas experience.
