Job description

About the Role

Bernardo Fashions has been recognized for more than 45 years as a worldwide name in premium outerwear. The company is broadening its apparel offering into a lifestyle sportswear direction, with each product shaped by refined fit, precise detailing, and a modern yet timeless aesthetic.

The Design Associate will support the Creative Design Director across the full product journey, from early concept work through production. The role is centered on design and product development for sportswear categories spanning woven and knit goods. Success in this position requires initiative, flexibility, strong collaboration across teams, and the ability to stay highly organized while handling several priorities and meeting tight deadlines.

Design Development and Concept Creation

  • Partner with the Creative Design Director to build inspiring design boards that clearly express seasonal concepts and creative direction.
  • Investigate new trends and source ideas in fabrics, silhouettes, trims, patterns, and colors to shape product direction while staying aligned with the brand and customer profile.

Technical Design Support and Documentation

  • Create detailed technical flats in Adobe Illustrator, including color and print renderings for each style.
  • Build and maintain complete style line sheets and keep all documentation current as seasonal changes are made.
  • Prepare first-pass handoff packages for Technical Design, including sketches plus fabric and trim details.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite confidently for flat sketching and color rendering.
  • Apply a solid understanding of garment construction and fit principles.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Act as an important point of contact between Design, Technical Design, overseas Product Development, and Sales to keep information accurate and communication timely throughout development.
  • Help organize and execute design meetings, handoffs, and line reviews.
  • Participate in fittings and record all updates and revisions.

Education and Experience

Experience in women’s apparel design, especially across woven and knit categories, is required. A bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related discipline is preferred.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000.
