About the Role

Scale's Global Public Sector team is dedicated to leveraging AI to tackle significant challenges faced by governments worldwide. Our work involves creating bespoke AI applications impacting millions, generating top-tier training data for national Large Language Models (LLMs), and providing AI upskilling and advisory services. As a DevOps Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and developing foundational platforms and software systems. This includes supporting orchestration, data abstraction, data pipelines, identity and access management, security tools, and the underlying cloud infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure, scalable backend systems for public sector clients utilizing modern, cloud-native AI infrastructure.
• Take ownership of services or systems, establishing long-term health objectives and enhancing the well-being of related components.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to define and deploy backend and infrastructure solutions specifically for secure environments.
• Elevate engineering standards, tooling, and processes to ensure consistently high-quality deliverables.
• Develop, maintain, and improve Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) for automated system provisioning and management.
• Manage cloud networking architecture, including secure Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), VPNs, load balancers, and firewalls.
• Create and optimize Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for efficient testing, building, and deployment workflows.
• Scale and fine-tune containerized applications using orchestration platforms like Kubernetes to guarantee high availability and reliability.
• Formulate and test disaster recovery plans, incorporating robust backup and failover mechanisms.
• Architect and implement hybrid and multi-cloud strategies to accommodate workloads across on-premises and multiple cloud providers.

Requirements

• Possess a strong engineering foundation, ideally with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Accumulate over 5 years of post-graduation engineering experience, with a primary focus on backend systems.
• Demonstrate proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Typescript, Javascript, or C++.
• Exhibit extensive experience in software development and a thorough understanding of distributed systems and major public cloud platforms, with a preference for AWS and Azure.
• Show a proven history of independently managing and successfully delivering engineering projects.
• Be adept at working with standard containerization and deployment technologies, including Kubernetes, Terraform, and Docker.
• Maintain a strong grasp of software engineering best practices and CI/CD tools like CircleCI and Github Actions.
• Possess a solid foundation and practical experience in network engineering.
