Job description
About the role
Aquariux is seeking a UI/UX Designer to craft polished, practical digital experiences for financial products such as trading and payments. The role sits in a fast-moving environment where you will help shape products through research, prototyping, and continuous design improvement to better serve market and client needs and support business growth.
You will work closely with Software Engineers and the Product Manager in agile sprints, contributing as part of a cross-functional team that owns delivery together. The position reports to the Design Lead and offers room to develop professionally and personally within a collaborative, growth-oriented setting.
The company values clear design, quick execution, and teamwork that helps both the product and its people evolve.
Responsibilities
- Carry out user research and usability testing to collect insights that guide design choices.
- Create and maintain a strong design system and UI library, and clearly share its principles, standards, and usage guidance with the wider team.
- Convert product requirements and/or wireframes into detailed high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes for web and mobile experiences.
- Build a solid understanding of the product and the fintech space to improve empathy for users and strengthen the overall journey.
- Investigate future design directions and product improvements that can keep the experience advancing over time.
- Partner with the design team to support the long-term vision, refine internal workflows, and continue raising product quality.
Requirements
- A portfolio in a format such as a website, PDF, Google Slides, or Figma that shows your design process from wireframes to final output and user flows; practical experience matters more than years on paper, with roughly 3+ years of relevant work preferred.
- Strong UI/UX capabilities with a keen eye for how users interact with systems.
- Current awareness of modern UI trends, methods, and technologies.
- Ability to spot improvement areas, remove friction, and shape better user behavior and experiences.
- Comfort working with design standards for web, iOS, and Android, plus the ability to discuss relevant successful case studies.
- Hands-on proficiency with design tools such as Figma.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills, including the ability to explain design reasoning, present user flows, and document decisions.
- Strong critical thinking, including the ability to ask the right questions and analyse information to form an informed perspective.
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions, work with stakeholders, and manage time effectively.
- A tertiary qualification in a design-related discipline such as visual communication, industrial design, HCI, product design, User Experience, or a similar field.
- Familiarity with agile methods and team workflows.
- Startup experience is an added advantage.
- Capability to stay organized, work efficiently in a fast-paced setting, and meet deadlines.
