Director, Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Engineering (Payments)

Role overview

We are hiring for a senior leadership position with a major Payments and FinTech organization. The role is focused on steering the direction, design, security, and day-to-day reliability of cloud and platform engineering across the business.

This leader will shape the cloud strategy, establish modern platform engineering standards, and guide the creation of infrastructure that is scalable, secure, and dependable for mission-critical financial applications and high-volume payment processing.

The position also involves leading cloud modernization efforts across AWS and multi-cloud setups, strengthening infrastructure governance, improving resilience, and advancing network and platform architecture.

You will champion Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and CloudFormation, as well as Kubernetes, containerization, automation, CI/CD, observability, and cloud-native engineering practices. Compliance with security and regulatory requirements will be a core part of the mandate.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Security, Data, Risk, and senior leadership to ensure platforms supporting real-time payments, APIs, distributed systems, and digital financial services remain highly available and performant.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the cloud roadmap and long-term platform strategy.
• Lead cloud transformation programs across AWS and multi-cloud environments.
• Set architecture direction for cloud platforms, networking, and platform modernization.
• Build and maintain secure, resilient, and scalable infrastructure for payment and financial systems.
• Drive best practices in platform engineering, automation, CI/CD, and observability.
• Oversee cloud security, operational resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Ensure infrastructure governance and compliance with regulatory and security standards.
• Partner with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders to align technology priorities with business goals.
• Manage vendors, budgets, and strategic technology planning.

Requirements

• At least 12 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, infrastructure architecture, or technology leadership.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams responsible for cloud infrastructure and platform engineering.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, CloudFormation, cloud networking, and cloud-native design.
• Solid understanding of cloud security, governance, resilience, disaster recovery, and continuity planning.
• Background in building and running highly available, fault-tolerant platforms within Payments, FinTech, Banking, Financial Services, or other regulated sectors.
• Working knowledge of MAS TRM, PCI-DSS, ISO27001, SOC2, DORA, or related regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability in stakeholder management, vendor management, budgeting, and roadmap ownership.
• AWS certifications are preferred, and experience with AI infrastructure or emerging cloud technologies would be an advantage.
