About LOVB

League One Volleyball (LOVB), founded in 2019, is building a mission-driven sports performance, training, and media company focused on transforming women’s volleyball in the United States and creating more opportunities for the next generation of female athletes.

The volleyball landscape in the U.S. is at an exciting point, supported by historic Olympic success in women’s indoor, beach, and sitting volleyball. It is already the most played girls’ youth sport, with 38 million current and former players, and it is the only major sport where women make up about 90% of participants. Even with that scale, the category has been largely overlooked by traditional sports investors, brands, and media.

LOVB is addressing that gap by building a strong club foundation, then using that audience and fan base to develop a top-tier pro league and a connected digital ecosystem across the entire organization. This community-first model is designed to grow participation, deepen fandom, and expand opportunities for girls and young women in the sport. The team is mission-led, highly collaborative, and focused on reshaping professional volleyball and women’s sports.

Role Summary

The Director of Strategy is a senior leader who helps define enterprise priorities, supports executive decisions, and drives high-impact initiatives across LOVB. This position acts as a strategic advisor to leadership, working closely with executives and stakeholders to clarify key questions, assess opportunities, align perspectives, and bring structure to important decisions.

The role blends high-level strategic judgment with hands-on problem solving, analysis, and execution. The right candidate will be equally comfortable in executive conversations and in the details of complex analytical work. Success in this role depends on the ability to connect ideas across functions, build alignment, influence decisions, and communicate strategic insights in a clear and compelling way.

LOVB is looking for someone with the strategic maturity of a top consulting manager, paired with the ownership, adaptability, and execution focus needed in a fast-growing environment. Performance will be evaluated not only on business results, but also on leadership quality, collaboration, discipline in execution, and alignment with company values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with leaders to identify, assess, and rank strategic opportunities and challenges.
  • Contribute to long-range priorities and value-creation initiatives for the enterprise.
  • Support senior decision-makers with structured analysis, clear framing, and practical recommendations.
  • Highlight risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and business impacts across functions.
  • Help create agreement around major strategic choices and organizational priorities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
  • Lead major cross-functional initiatives from idea stage through implementation.
  • Break complex, ambiguous issues into manageable and actionable workstreams.
  • Guide the creation of business cases, growth plans, operating models, and transformation efforts.
  • Drive strategic planning cycles and significant organizational reviews.
  • Maintain momentum, accountability, and measurable progress on key initiatives.
  • Find ways to strengthen organizational effectiveness and decision quality.
  • Build strong working relationships with business and functional leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Lead constructive discussions among groups with different viewpoints and priorities.
  • Develop alignment around strategic recommendations and delivery plans.
  • Support leaders in communicating strategic priorities within their teams.
  • Improve coordination across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Contribute to strategic analysis and direct it when needed.
  • Review analytical work for depth, accuracy, and business relevance.
  • Help develop market analyses, financial models, competitive assessments, and business cases.
  • Turn complex data into practical insights for executives.
  • Ensure recommendations are both analytically sound and grounded in real business conditions.
  • Create and present executive materials such as presentations, memos, and strategy recommendations.
  • Communicate complex information in a concise and action-oriented format.
  • Present findings and recommendations to leadership and other senior stakeholders.
  • Support preparation for board, executive, and strategic planning discussions as needed.
  • Develop consistent strategic frameworks, tools, and communication methods across the organization.

Requirements

  • Highly developed strategic thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Confident leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication capabilities.
  • Strong ability to distill large amounts of information into executive-level insights.
  • Solid analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Comfort moving between high-level strategy and detailed analysis.
  • Proven experience leading complex cross-functional work.
  • Strong stakeholder management and coalition-building ability.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and create clarity in changing environments.
  • Strong ownership, sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to challenge ideas constructively while building trust.
  • MBA from a leading business school is strongly preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years of professional experience.
  • Background at a top-tier management consulting firm is strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading teams, large workstreams, or strategic initiatives.
  • Experience presenting to and influencing senior executives.
  • Experience driving alignment across multiple functions and stakeholders.
  • Exposure to sports, media, consumer brands, entertainment, technology, or fast-growing businesses is an advantage.
  • Prior support of executive leadership teams and enterprise-wide strategic work is preferred.
  • Strong commitment to LOVB’s mission and to elevating volleyball and advancing women and girls through sport.
  • Ability to contribute to inclusive, high-performing cultures.
  • Belief that the manner in which results are achieved matters as much as the results themselves.
  • History of leading with integrity, accountability, and transparency.
  • Capability to model strong leadership behaviors during ambiguity, pressure, and growth.
