Role summary
Stock Transportation is hiring a part-time dispatcher in Richmond Hill, Ontario. This position follows a Monday to Friday schedule and starts at a wage of $21.00 per hour.
What you'll do
- Oversee daily dispatch activity by planning driver, bus assistant, and vehicle assignments so all routes, field trips, and charter trips are covered.
- Track day-to-day work for drivers and bus assistants and make sure tasks are completed on schedule.
- Share assignment details clearly with drivers so trips are carried out correctly.
- Support drivers with route directions and arrange special service support when needed.
- Advise on disciplinary action, including suspension or termination, for part-time employees who violate company policies.
- Handle emergency calls, support emergency response procedures, coordinate mechanical repairs, and arrange substitute buses and drivers when route issues arise.
- Inform district and CSC teams about route changes, emergencies, accidents, breakdowns, or any disruption to service.
- Keep route files and records current, including contract requirements, school data, student information, route updates, maps, vehicle details, bus assignments, and driver information, while following school board and provincial rules.
- Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate vehicle servicing and repairs so service stays uninterrupted.
- Follow dispatch standard operating procedures closely.
- Address customer questions and concerns quickly and professionally.
- Escalate unresolved matters to management when needed.
What we're looking for
- High school diploma or GED.
- Dispatch experience is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of the local area to support efficient routing.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills to handle competing customer care and dispatch demands.
- Clear communication skills for working with colleagues and customers in fast-moving or high-pressure situations, including in person and over the phone.
- Ability to understand and act on written instructions and documents from customers and team members.
- Comfort working cooperatively and following direction.
- Ability to stay effective in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
- Capacity to work with an appropriate level of independence.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Ability to operate two-way radios and emergency radio systems.
- Familiarity with office equipment such as fax machines, scanners, copiers, zip drives, and telephone systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computerized routing software.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to read road and street maps.
- Strong record-keeping and organization skills for dispatch and routing work.
