About the role
The Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business is hiring a full-time AO3 Driving Examiner for the Cairns Customer Service Centres in Cairns, Queensland. The department focuses on improving customer services for Queenslanders, supporting small and family business owners, and delivering better government services and support.
Its work includes delivering customer-focused, accessible, and effective engagement with the public, small and family business owners, and other government agencies. The department also supports Queensland Government priorities in customer service delivery, digital technology, and data to help build a transparent and efficient government.

Key responsibilities
- Carry out practical driving assessments for applicants while following Queensland Government standards and road safety requirements.
- Assess driving ability, knowledge of road rules, and safe vehicle operation across different traffic and road conditions.
- Deliver feedback to candidates in a clear, constructive, and professional manner after each assessment.
- Apply testing procedures consistently and fairly in line with departmental policies.
- Support road safety awareness and help the department work toward reducing road incidents involving heavy vehicles.
- Work with colleagues and other stakeholders to ensure services are delivered smoothly to the community.
Role requirements
- A current Open Heavy Rigid (HR) licence held for at least 12 months is mandatory.
- Holding higher licence classes, particularly Heavy Combination (HC), will be considered an advantage.
- A clean driving history with no major infringements is required.
