EHS Specialist

Overview

Amazon is seeking a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist to help advance its goal of being the safest place to work. In this role, you will support a strong safety culture at the site, using both data and practical, people-focused solutions to reduce risk and protect employees. You will act as the local safety lead, building trust with associates and leaders while helping improve safety performance and operational discipline.

What you will do

You will oversee day-to-day safety efforts by conducting audits, investigating incidents, assessing risks, and putting preventive actions in place. A major part of the role is delivering effective safety training, encouraging continuous improvement, and turning safety data into actions that improve both protection and productivity.

You will also serve as a safety advisor for associates and leaders, helping strengthen communication, reinforce safe behaviors, and build commitment to workplace wellbeing across the facility.

Role expectations

• Lift loads of up to 49 pounds and regularly bend, squat, push, pull, reach, and climb stairs where applicable.
• Remain on your feet and walk for as long as 12 hours per shift.
• Work around changing noise levels.
• Work in areas with variable temperatures and weather conditions, including outdoor loading areas at delivery stations.
• Provide support during emergencies and assist with site emergency response.
• Be available for rotating schedules that may include days, nights, and weekends.
• If you do not already have adult First Aid, CPR, and AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, you must secure it within 3 weeks of your start date.

Qualifications

The role calls for a high school diploma or equivalent, along with either at least 1 year of experience in an environmental health and safety field, a bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related area, or 6 months of safety-related experience within Amazon. Candidates should understand OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910, and be comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional setting. The position also requires the ability to handle confidential workplace matters with discretion.

Preferred background

Helpful experience includes a bachelor’s degree or above in a safety-focused field, strong communication and collaboration skills, solid judgment and analytical ability, and customer-oriented thinking. Experience managing teams, reviewing accident data, evaluating machinery and new processes for safety risks, performing job hazard and job safety analyses, handling emergency response, holding current First Aid/CPR credentials, and working on workers’ compensation cases is valued.

Compensation

The stated hourly pay range for this position in Appling, Georgia is USD 27.00 to 33.00 per hour.
