Role overview
The Electrical Site Engineer supports dependable field operations by carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and related control systems. The role focuses on diagnosing issues, restoring equipment performance, and ensuring electrical assets remain safe, reliable, and compliant with company and HSE standards.
This position covers maintenance and repair work on electrical installations, motors, switchgear, transformers, power distribution networks, lighting, earthing arrangements, protection systems, and associated instrumentation. It also contributes to shutdown and start-up activities, provides hands-on technical support to technicians, and helps maintain a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.
Key duties
- Assist with troubleshooting faults and verify completed work meets operational and quality expectations before it is handed over.
- Create work orders, secure permits, review drawings and wiring schematics, and coordinate the tools, materials, and equipment needed for the job.
- Carry out installation, servicing, and repair of electronic and pneumatic instrumentation in both field and workshop settings.
- Test and calibrate repaired electronic and pneumatic instruments to confirm correct performance.
- Operate diagnostic software for data acquisition systems and PLCs to support software-related maintenance activities.
- Record daily progress reports covering the fault cause, work completed, materials consumed, manpower used, and time spent.
- Keep tools and test equipment clean, functional, and ready for use.
- Support Operations during process shutdowns and start-up procedures with technical input.
- Follow HSE requirements and company safety rules at all times.
- Recommend spare parts and material needs to the Supervisor.
- Perform maintenance in accordance with standing instructions, internal procedures, and accepted oil-industry practices.
- Coach and guide new technicians, including UAE National Developers, to build capability on the job.
- Ensure team members understand the task, have the required competence, and know their responsibilities.
- Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and accountability to meet maintenance targets.
- Develop positive working relationships built on respect, acceptance, and collaboration.
- Help colleagues grow through feedback, instruction, and encouragement.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or an equivalent qualification in Electrical or Instrumentation & Control.
- At least 8 years of experience maintaining electrical and instrument control systems.
- Experience in oil and gas operations is an advantage.
- Solid knowledge of process control systems, instrumentation, Fire & Gas safety systems, data acquisition systems, and PLCs.
- Ability to interpret wiring plans, diagrams, work orders, and technical maintenance records.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements, company procedures, and oil-industry maintenance standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good planning, time management, prioritisation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Comfortable working with colleagues and stakeholders across all organizational levels.
- Leadership capability to direct, motivate, and support technicians and other team members.
- Flexibility to contribute to special assignments and different business units when needed.
