Job description

About the company

Bugcrowd has been helping organizations strengthen their security posture since 2012 by bringing together customers and a global community of trusted hackers, supported by its Security Knowledge Platform and CrowdMatch technology. The company combines human expertise with data and AI to surface hidden weaknesses quickly, including threats that may involve zero-day exploits. Bugcrowd is headquartered in San Francisco and New Hampshire and is backed by General Catalyst, Rally Ventures, Costanoa Ventures, and other investors.

Role overview

This summer internship is a part-time position of 25 hours per week and runs for 2 to 3 months. It is designed for a student who wants to build practical experience by learning the team’s technologies and contributing code within clear expectations. The role emphasizes hands-on execution, close collaboration with peers and mentors, and applying academic knowledge in a real production environment. The intern will support feature work and bug fixing while learning the tools, practices, and patterns used by the team.

What you will do

  • Support the build and upkeep of web applications developed with Python 3.9, Django, and DRF.
  • Take part in the software development lifecycle and learn how each stage works in practice.
  • Help with code reviews and contribute to strengthening application security.
  • Assist in creating automated tests that improve reliability and security.
  • Contribute to written technical material such as design documents, API documentation, and release notes.
  • Work on integrations with external services such as Google, AWS, and ServiceNow.
  • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to identify vulnerabilities and follow secure coding practices.

What the company is looking for

  • Currently enrolled in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar program, preferably entering the senior year.
  • Practical exposure to at least one programming language from Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python.
  • A strong willingness to learn and a proactive, can-do mindset.
  • Familiarity with React is preferred.
  • Experience using Git or GitHub is preferred.
  • Exposure to AWS or another cloud platform is preferred.

Working conditions

The selected candidate must be able to meet the physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation. The work may involve staying in one position for about half of the workday and carrying or moving a laptop as needed.

Culture and inclusion

Bugcrowd emphasizes inclusion, collaboration, and diversity as key parts of its workplace culture. The team describes itself as a broad mix of people with different interests and backgrounds, and the organization values the perspectives of underrepresented groups in solving security problems that affect everyone.

Important notice

This role involves access to highly confidential and sensitive company information, so the candidate must demonstrate strong integrity and discretion. The employer may conduct background checks where permitted by law, and these checks can include Social Security verification, prior employment confirmation, reference checks, education verification, and criminal history review. Applicants with conviction histories will be considered as required by law. Any personal information submitted during the application process will be handled according to the company’s privacy policy. The company is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. If accommodation is needed for the application, interview, or job performance process, HR can be contacted at ADA at bugcrowd.com.

Compensation

The pay range for this internship is $20 to $25 per hour.
