About the role
OZ Optics Ltd. is hiring an Engineering Scientist for a permanent full-time position in Ottawa, Ontario. The role is carried out in English and follows a 44-hour work week on day shift.
Role focus
This position centers on engineering science, electrical and electronics engineering, and physics within a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will contribute to research, product and component design, and project coordination while also taking on supervisory duties.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee technicians, technologists, and other engineers as part of the day-to-day work.
- Perform research activities that help expand technical knowledge in the field.
- Develop electrical and electronic components, systems, and equipment.
- Bring prior supervisory experience to support team leadership.
- Work with clients and engineering colleagues to define project needs and research requirements.
- Carry out applied research in electrical and electronic engineering as well as physics.
- Organize and coordinate work so projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Technical background and knowledge
The position calls for a strong academic background, specifically a master's degree, and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Knowledge or experience in electrical and electronics engineering, engineering science, and physics is expected, with additional emphasis on optics and laser physics.
Tools, experience, and specialization
- Hands-on knowledge of fibre optics.
- Familiarity with Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
- Experience using MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint.
- Understanding of information technology tools and workflows.
- Experience in operations or production environments.
- Background in research and development work.
- Exposure to physics, science, and failure analysis.
Working conditions and requirements
