Role overview
Nova Scotia Health is seeking a permanent full-time Environmental Services Worker to help keep patient, visitor, and staff spaces clean, safe, and functional at Western Zone, Queens General Hospital in Hunts Point, Nova Scotia. The role reports to the Assistant Manager, Facility Support Services, and is part of the FMS Environmental Services department.
Key duties
This position is responsible for cleaning assigned areas across the facility, including patient rooms and shared/public spaces. Work includes mopping, dusting, vacuuming furniture and floors, cleaning stairways, buffing, scrubbing, refinishing floors, moving and arranging furniture, and replacing curtains and drapes.
The worker is also expected to carry out duties in a way that reflects the organization’s mission, vision, values, leadership approach, safety standards, quality focus, ethical expectations, population health goals, and collaborative team-based care principles.
Requirements and qualifications
Candidates should have completed Grade 12 or bring equivalent practical work experience. A strong commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and organizational well-being is important, along with the ability to protect confidential information.
Travel to other sites may be required, so access to a dependable vehicle is necessary. The role involves operating equipment such as Taski spray buffers, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and shampooers. Language skills beyond English are considered an asset, with French preferred.
Working hours and employment details
This is a permanent hourly full-time position at 100% time, scheduled for 75 hours every two weeks. It is a CUPE support role within a bargaining unit, and preference may be given to existing bargaining unit employees for unionized postings.
Compensation and benefits
The hourly pay range is $20.74 to $21.56. Eligible hires may receive benefits that include health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, plus a defined benefit pension plan.
