Job description

Role overview

This role sits within RBC’s Capital Markets business in Toronto and supports the Mining Analyst with fundamental research focused on the mining sector, with a particular emphasis on precious metals mining equity and commodity analysis. It is suited to someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, high-performance setting and wants exposure to research professionals, institutional investors, and other market participants in Canada and internationally.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and refine detailed financial models for individual companies as well as broader industry and macroeconomic analysis.
  • Develop, update, and manage sector-specific databases and presentation materials.
  • Maintain working relationships with coverage companies, investors, and internal Capital Markets stakeholders.
  • Review financial statements, company disclosures, and industry data to draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Support the preparation of research notes and sector reports.

Requirements

  • Completed undergraduate studies in Applied Science areas such as Engineering, Geology, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science, or in Business disciplines such as Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Professional credentials such as CA/CMA, MBA, CFA designation, or CFA exam enrollment are preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel ability and comfort learning new software platforms quickly.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical thinking and the ability to interpret data trends beyond surface-level observations.
  • Self-driven, energetic, and able to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines, including extended periods of intense workload.
  • Structured, process-oriented approach and ability to learn quickly on the job.
  • Clear interest in equity markets and financial markets more broadly.
  • Prior experience in natural resources, extractive industries, or research is considered an advantage.

Compensation and work details

This is a regular, full-time position based onsite in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at Royal Bank Plaza, 200 Bay St. The role is scheduled for 37.5 hours per week and is salaried. The expected base pay range is CAD 80,000 to CAD 115,000 annually, with possible discretionary variable compensation depending on business and individual performance. Compensation is influenced by experience, skills, registration status, performance, goals, market conditions, and business needs. The posting notes that pay ranges may vary by location.
