Role Summary
This full-time, on-site External Auditor position is based in Doha, Qatar. The role centers on planning and carrying out audit assignments in accordance with relevant auditing requirements. You will assess risk, test internal controls, perform substantive audit procedures, review financial statements, examine supporting evidence, and flag any compliance issues or improvement opportunities. You will also prepare organized working papers and audit reports, share observations and recommendations with clients and senior colleagues, contribute to management letters, and coordinate with tax and advisory teams where required. The position also includes supporting junior staff and staying up to date with current accounting and auditing practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute external audit assignments, including risk evaluation and audit approach design.
- Carry out control testing and substantive audit procedures in line with applicable standards.
- Review financial statements and supporting records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Assess internal controls, identify weaknesses, and highlight process gaps or areas for improvement.
- Prepare detailed audit documentation, working papers, and client-ready reports.
- Communicate audit observations and recommendations to clients and senior team members.
- Assist in drafting management letters and related audit correspondence.
- Work alongside tax and advisory teams when assignments require cross-functional support.
- Keep current with accounting, auditing, and reporting standards relevant to the role.
- Support and guide junior team members to help build technical capability within the team.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of auditing standards, accounting principles such as IFRS, and financial reporting practices.
- Hands-on exposure to planning and performing external audits, including risk assessment, testing, and documentation.
- Ability to review financial information, evaluate controls, and detect weaknesses in processes.
- Comfort using audit/accounting systems, spreadsheet tools, and standard office productivity software.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills for reports, documentation, and client interaction.
- Good organization and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and engagements.
- Integrity, professional skepticism, and strong attention to detail are essential.
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
- A professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CA, or active progress toward one, is preferred.
- Previous work in an external audit position at a public accounting or audit firm is an advantage.
- Exposure to tax and business advisory concepts within the Qatar or wider regional regulatory context is helpful.
