Job description
About the Company
Qualcomm India Private Limited is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to support its facilities and construction activities in India and across the Asia region.
Role Overview
This position focuses on two core areas: mechanical design and construction oversight for new or upgraded facilities, and ongoing improvement of mechanical and plumbing systems across Qualcomm buildings. The role may involve serving as an in-house designer on selected projects or reviewing consultant-created designs to ensure they meet project needs, technical standards, and applicable codes.
The engineer will work closely with internal facilities teams, design consultants, end users, and facility operators to define requirements for new and modified spaces. The role also calls for helping plan and implement upgrades to building systems, including control/monitoring systems and sustainability-related initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will act as a technical resource for mechanical and plumbing engineering within a multi-discipline design environment, support MEP projects as a main point of contact, and collaborate with stakeholders at different management levels. The role requires independent judgment, the ability to solve complex problems creatively, and willingness to travel to other cities in India and to other countries in Asia.
Technical Scope
- Design building mechanical, plumbing, and control systems for facilities projects.
- Review third-party mechanical designs and check them against mechanical codes and accepted engineering practices.
- Prepare mechanical project requirements and scope documents, and monitor consultant compliance.
- Support improvements to HVAC, central plant, energy management, and plumbing systems.
- Contribute to sustainable design initiatives, commissioning, energy audits, and engineering studies.
- Participate in meetings with end users and facilities operators to define space requirements.
- Provide input to the design team on mechanical and plumbing matters across projects.
- Serve as a regional contact for MEP-related matters with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience and Expertise Required
The position calls for substantial hands-on experience in mechanical design, building systems, HVAC, data centers, and related infrastructure. The candidate should be comfortable working in fast-moving, multi-project environments and should be able to adapt priorities as project demands change.
Additional Information
This role reports to the Qualcomm Facilities Engineering Bangalore team leader and indirectly to the Senior Manager in San Diego, California, USA.
The company is an equal opportunity employer and offers accommodation for individuals with disabilities during the hiring process. Qualcomm also expects employees to follow all applicable company policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements. Staffing agencies and recruiters are not authorized to use the careers site or submit unsolicited profiles, applications, or resumes.
Qualifications and Preferred Background

- At least 3 years of experience with HVAC thermal load design and energy compliance software.
- At least 3 years of experience using AutoCAD and Revit/BIM for design and drafting, and performing life cycle cost analysis using software or spreadsheets.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a design project manager for a mechanical systems design firm or in a comparable role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and adjacent disciplines, with awareness of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of Tier 3 data center design, including specialty cooling, humidity control, generators, computer room A/C, and UPS systems.
- Working knowledge of building mechanical and plumbing systems for office and R&D environments, data centers, and power-related facilities.
- Experience with central plant design, modifications, and operations.
