Role overview

Jealous Fruits Ltd is hiring a Farm Manager to oversee orchard operations in Kelowna, British Columbia. This is an on-site position, so the work must be performed at the physical location with no remote option available.

Language requirement

English is required for this role.

Education

A secondary school graduation certificate is needed.

Experience

Applicants should have 3 years to less than 5 years of relevant experience.

Work environment

The job is based in a rural setting and the employer is open to relocation. Day-to-day conditions may include dusty, hot, and noisy surroundings, along with outdoor work in harvest crops, horticultural field crops, and tree/orchard fruit production.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee planting, cultivation, and harvesting activities.
  • Train fruit trees so they produce higher yields and better-quality fruit.
  • Look after farm machinery, equipment, and buildings.
  • Direct the overall running of the farm.
  • Carry out general farm work as needed.
  • Hire, supervise, and coordinate staff and/or volunteers.

Supervision

This position involves supervising more than 20 people.

Crop and equipment experience

Experience with apples and cherries is relevant. Familiarity with automated irrigation systems, sprayers or dusters, tractors, and trucks is also required.

Additional information

A valid driver's licence is needed for travel-related duties.

Work conditions and physical demands

The role calls for strong attention to detail and comfort with bending, crouching, kneeling, standing for long periods, handling heavy loads, and working in a fast-moving, physically demanding environment. Tight deadlines, pressure, and extended periods of standing are part of the job.

Personal suitability

Strong interpersonal skills, clear spoken and written communication, flexibility, initiative, good judgement, organization, teamwork, and a strong sense of ethics are important.
