Job description
About One Acre Fund
One Acre Fund was established in 2006 with a mission to help smallholder farmers raise productivity on their farms. The organization works across nine countries that collectively represent about two-thirds of Africa’s farmers, providing quality farm inputs, tree seedlings, accessible credit, practical agronomy training, and additional agricultural support services. On average, this approach has helped farmers improve income and assets on supported land by more than 35% while also strengthening resilience. The work is powered by a team of 9,000+ full-time employees from many different professional and cultural backgrounds.
Role Summary
This position calls for a strong supply chain professional to lead fertilizer sourcing activities with a focus on cost control, dependable delivery, and strong execution. The role involves guiding procurement decisions through data, improving processes, and supporting a capable team.
Key Responsibilities
The role centers on seasonal procurement planning, supplier coordination, process improvement, and people leadership. Success means meeting delivery targets, protecting product quality, and building long-term supplier and market relationships while supporting country operations teams.
Procurement and Delivery
- Help design and implement seasonal procurement plans that target more than 90% on-time, in-full delivery, competitive pricing, and 5% annual cost reduction.
- Maintain strict quality checks so no quality problems reach farmers, and support an on-time supplier payment rate above 80%.
- Anticipate supply risks by comparing farmer demand with global market movements, supplier capacity, and current inventory.
- Improve lead times by simplifying delivery workflows and automating processes, including goods receipt and loading quality controls.
- Keep landing cost analysis tools accurate and up to date so purchasing decisions are based on solid data.
Partnerships and External Representation
- Develop and sustain strong relationships with fertilizer suppliers and industry groups beyond the seasonal buying cycle.
- Work closely with country operations teams to identify ways to improve the farmer offering.
- Represent the organization externally with suppliers and market participants to support long-term supply chain improvements.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and coach a small team by setting clear goals, giving timely feedback, and completing thoughtful performance reviews.
- Oversee hiring, staffing, and succession planning to build a strong procurement function.
Growth and Development
The organization promotes continuous learning through weekly manager check-ins, mentorship, training opportunities, and regular performance feedback. Career reviews are held every six months, with dedicated time to discuss goals and long-term direction. The role also offers the chance to help shape a growing organization and develop a lasting career.
Required Qualifications
- Strong understanding of procurement, supply chain operations, and international shipping.
- Good analytical ability, including practical use of Google Suite and Microsoft Excel for tracking budgets, inventory, and objectives.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Excellent collaboration, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Comfort with solving problems using a practical, data-informed approach in medium-risk situations.
Location and Start Date
The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and the preferred start date is as soon as possible.
Benefits
Employees receive health insurance, housing support, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Eligibility
This opportunity is limited to Kenyan citizens or permanent residents of Kenya.
