Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining plant equipment and facilities so the unit runs safely, steadily, and efficiently. The role supports production goals while upholding quality requirements and a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow applicable policies, procedures, standard operating methods, and shift instructions to ensure work is executed in a controlled and consistent way.
  • Stay updated on improved practices and process trends, and contribute ideas that help refine systems and workflows.
  • Check the condition of equipment using the LLF (look, listen, feel) approach and report any abnormal performance or issues.
  • Monitor field equipment according to SOPs, SOCs, and checklists, and maintain the health of HSE-related equipment with proper check-sheet records.
  • Assist the shift superintendent in tracking process parameters and coordinate with maintenance to resolve CP-related issues on time.
  • Handle equipment handover and takeover from maintenance teams while strictly following PTW/LOTO requirements and workplace safety rules.
  • Collect and transport field samples for laboratory analysis and carry out gas checks such as LEL and O2 using portable instruments.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs and document site activities consistently; also manage logbooks, formats, spares, and consumable inventory.
  • Keep the work area orderly by managing hazardous materials, separating and minimizing waste, and ensuring fire and safety equipment remains in proper condition.
  • Respond as a first aider/first responder during field emergencies and participate in the Auxiliary Fire Squad.
  • Understand rotary machine seal systems, including the importance of seal pot level and pressure.
  • Be familiar with compressor lubrication systems and the significance of temperature, pressure, flow, and related parameters.
  • Know the status of LO/LC valves and be able to locate instruments in the field.
  • Take part in risk assessments during handovers, takeovers, and process work, and conduct toolbox talks before tasks begin.
  • Perform process activities within approved safety limits to reduce the chances of failures, incidents, and injuries.
  • Record and report near-miss events so patterns can be identified and future incidents prevented.
  • Follow current safety and management systems and guidelines such as IMS, ISO, TQM, OMS, PSM, QCC, and 5S.
  • Comply with LOTO, nitrogen gas safety, line-breaking, and related procedures.
  • Carry out any other task assigned by supervisory authorities as needed.

Education and experience

  • A diploma in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in field executive or site operations roles is needed.
  • Preferred exposure includes unit operations, work permit procedures, plant hazards and controls, basic plant process knowledge, emergency response, problem-solving, people management, communication, teamwork, and self-discipline.

Technical knowledge and compliance focus

  • Awareness of injury categories such as fatality, LWC, RWC, MTC, and FAC.
  • Understanding of fire-related risks, both process and non-process.
  • Knowledge of process safety incident tiers 1, 2, and 3.
  • Ability to recognize near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
  • Focus on OMPro task completion, operation/quality variance control, OD violations, workplace incidents, field rounds (ODR), SD job register entries, and plant housekeeping.
