Job description

About the organisation

Oji Fibre Solutions – Forest Resources operates within a manufacturing environment focused on the efficient and complete use of sustainably sourced virgin wood fibre drawn from renewable forestry resources. The business is known for producing high-quality kraft pulp used internationally in a broad range of board and specialty products.

About the role

This is a varied forestry position for an experienced professional who enjoys operational excellence, building strong partnerships, and contributing to environmental sustainability. The role has a direct impact on both the day-to-day fibre supply function and the long-term future of one of New Zealand’s major manufacturing operations.

As the Fibre Supply Forester, you will bring a broad forestry background and work across supplier relationships, environmental certification, commercial and safety oversight of harvesting activity, and the assessment of forest and land acquisition opportunities.

Key duties

  • Work with external suppliers to secure pulp log supply and make practical, value-driven decisions on procurement options.
  • Take ownership of environmental certifications and ongoing compliance obligations.
  • Oversee log harvesting activities and the related supply chain.
  • Provide proactive health and safety leadership so workers and contractors return home safely each day.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business and the wider industry.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will come from a forest harvesting background and have at least 5 years of experience managing harvest operations and the commercial side of forestry, ideally in the Central North Island. You should also have experience with environmental certification requirements, GIS, contractor management, and the health and safety obligations associated with log harvesting, transport, and forest engineering. Knowledge of the regional industrial log market, the ability to cost harvesting and transport operations, and strong communication and relationship-building skills are also important.

What the employer offers

  • Competitive salary package
  • Enhanced superannuation
  • Regular Care Southern Cross medical insurance
  • Income protection, permanent disability cover, and life insurance

How to apply

Applicants should submit an application form along with an updated cover letter and CV by Friday, 31 July 2026. The company is actively recruiting for this position and encourages early applications, as the advertisement may be withdrawn before the closing date if the role is filled.

Pre-employment checks

The successful applicant will need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment, a drug test, and Ministry of Justice criminal history and right-to-work checks for New Zealand. The employer will cover these costs.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen, hold a resident visa, or otherwise have the legal right to work in New Zealand.

Equal opportunity and diversity

The employer encourages applications from people who may not feel they match every requirement, and notes that women and minority groups do not always apply unless they meet all criteria. The organisation values diversity across nationalities, languages, religions, customs, and lifestyles.
