Job description
Role overview
This position is for a Floor Staff member at The White Swan in Solihull, part of J D Wetherspoon. The role pays £12.81 and is intended for someone who enjoys working in a lively pub environment, serving customers and supporting the day-to-day running of the floor.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be upbeat, eager to learn and comfortable staying calm when things get busy. Prior experience is not required, as full training is provided through a recognised programme. This opportunity suits someone dependable, approachable and happy to work well with others, whether they want a long-term path or simply additional shifts.
Main duties
In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for serving food and drinks accurately and efficiently while maintaining strong standards of cleanliness, safety and customer care.
- Take customer orders and prepare, pour and serve drinks according to the required specification, either at the bar or through the customer app.
- Deliver food to guests, complete check-backs and clear plates within the expected time.
- Greet customers warmly, thank them and help build a friendly rapport.
- Stay informed about promotions, events and new menu or product launches.
- Keep the venue tidy by clearing tables, wiping down surfaces and completing toilet checks as part of the clean-as-you-go approach.
- Support other areas as needed, including glass washing, replenishing fridges, clearing the floor and beer garden, and similar tasks.
Working pattern
The pubs operate from early morning until late at night, so shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends and late finishes. The standard weekly hours listed for this vacancy are 8, with flexible scheduling across Monday through Sunday.
Training and progression
Wetherspoon says many of its team leaders and managers began in entry-level bar or kitchen roles. Colleagues looking to grow can access structured on-the-job training, apprenticeships, management academies, cross-training into other areas such as the kitchen or hotel, and routes into team leader, kitchen shift leader or pub manager positions.
Benefits and rewards
This job includes a competitive hourly rate, a free meal and drink while on shift, and a 20% discount on food, drinks and hotel stays for you and up to three guests when off duty. Additional rewards include £1 extra per hour for work between midnight and 5:59am, a bonus scheme worth up to 19% of pay, paid holiday, free shares after a qualifying period, and a loyalty reward scheme.
Additional information
The company promotes an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds, preferences and beliefs are welcome. Pay for under-18s may be lower, but it will always follow national guidance and is usually above it. If applications are numerous, the vacancy may close before the stated closing date of 20-06-2026.
