Project overview
This opportunity is for a flexible illustrator to help shape the visual identity of a dark fantasy and sci-fi world that extends across a book, podcast, mobile game, and board game. The artwork needs to feel cohesive across all these formats while capturing a dramatic, high-impact style.
The ideal artist will be comfortable creating hyperrealistic, retro-influenced illustrations and can adapt their approach to different deliverables while keeping the project’s overall look consistent.
Deliverables
- Create one full-color book cover sized at 6 x 9 inches, rendered in a hyperrealistic style influenced by Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo.
- Produce five black-and-white character portraits in line-art format.
- Develop five color illustrations, approximately 3.5 x 4.5 inches each, inspired by the style of Alexey Gorboot.
- Ensure every piece reflects a unified dark fantasy and sci-fi visual tone aligned with the project references.
- Work closely with the project lead so the artwork supports the story, themes, and creative direction.
Requirements
- A solid background in illustration, supported by a portfolio showing strong hyperrealistic work and fantasy/sci-fi influences.
- Confidence using digital art software such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, or similar tools.
- Ability to produce work that echoes the artistic feel of Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and Alexey Gorboot.
- Good knowledge of composition, color usage, and character design.
- Clear communication skills and openness to revisions or feedback.
- Capacity to complete the work to a high standard within the agreed schedule.
- Prior exposure to book cover artwork or illustrations for media projects is advantageous.
- Remote collaboration is acceptable, and candidates based locally may also be considered for face-to-face meetings if needed.
