Job description

Role overview

We are looking for a highly capable, self-directed General Counsel to strengthen the internal legal team across three major areas: a top 5 direct-to-consumer e-commerce brand, a family office investing in hedge funds, and cross-border legal structuring across multiple jurisdictions. This role reports directly to the CEO and requires ownership of important legal matters spanning consumer law, regulatory compliance, fund documentation, custody processes, and international structuring. It is a senior, hands-on position with real decision-making responsibility.

Work style and impact

This role is designed for someone who thrives on speed, autonomy, and broad exposure. You will be expected to identify meaningful legal risks early, produce regular exposure reviews for leadership, and help shape legal processes across several workstreams. The environment favors proactive problem-solving, fast learning, and independent judgment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead legal support across three distinct domains: DTC e-commerce compliance, hedge fund and family office documentation, and multi-jurisdictional structuring.
  • Report directly to the CEO and provide clear legal guidance on issues affecting the business.
  • Manage and coordinate outside counsel across the relevant practice areas.
  • Review and strengthen consumer-facing flows for compliance with FTC and related consumer protection rules.
  • Handle fund subscription documentation, custody protocols, LP terms, and related investment-side legal materials.
  • Support cross-border asset structuring and other international legal work.
  • Identify legal and regulatory risks proactively, including issues not specifically assigned to you.
  • Prepare monthly legal exposure audits and quarterly compliance reviews.
  • Conduct quarterly fund documentation reviews and support ongoing legal risk management.
  • Contribute to strategic legal decision-making with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5 to 10 years of legal experience, ideally including both law firm and in-house roles.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple outside counsel relationships at the same time.
  • Comfort working with high autonomy and little day-to-day oversight.
  • Experience working across multiple international jurisdictions and coordinating cross-border legal matters.
  • Demonstrated habit of spotting legal risks independently rather than waiting for assignments.
  • Comfort using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms for research, drafting, and issue-spotting; this will be assessed during interviews.
  • Independent judgment and a proactive, ownership-driven approach to work.
  • Ability to work with meaningful overlap with EMEA time zones.

Preferred background

  • Prior corporate or commercial law experience at a mid-market or large law firm before moving in-house.
  • Exposure to fund finance, LP agreements, or NAV-based lending.
  • Familiarity with consumer protection law, including FTC and state-level requirements, or with DTC e-commerce regulatory work.
  • Experience supporting corporate transactions or diligence exercises.
  • Background serving high-net-worth individuals or family office clients.

Compensation and benefits

Compensation can reach USD 220,000 per year, plus a monthly performance bonus of up to 10%. The total annual package can go up to USD 246,800, along with comprehensive benefits.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, depending on the country of hire.
  • Generous paid time off and public holidays, based on the country of hire.
  • Access to an AI-first tool stack and an AI-native work environment.
  • Fully remote work from your home office or any suitable location with the required time zone overlap.
  • Learning and development opportunities.
  • Collaboration with an international team representing 14+ nationalities.
  • Eligibility for the Leaders Club, which includes premium wellness memberships, senior-leadership networking, and annual retreats.
  • Eligibility for monthly recognition as the We Are Champion of the Month, including gift vouchers and company-wide celebration.

Company values

  • Take ownership and act like a business partner rather than a task executor.
  • Move quickly and make thoughtful decisions under pressure.
  • Hold a high bar for quality and solve difficult problems.
  • Use AI regularly and critically as part of the daily workflow.
  • Commit fully when the business needs collective effort.

Additional notes

The role is remote and global, but it requires substantial overlap with EMEA time zones. The position is intended for candidates who want broad, high-impact legal responsibility rather than a narrow support function.
