General Laborer

Role overview

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), a wholly owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs, is hiring immediately for a General Laborer in Windsor, Ontario. FPT is a major North American processor, buyer, seller, and recycler of scrap metals, supplying materials to the region’s metals industry. In this role, you will help process scrap metal using a range of tools and equipment.

What you will do

• Follow safety procedures at all times, use the required PPE, eliminate hazards when identified, and keep the work area clean.
• Move materials into and out of storage, production zones, docks, delivery trucks, staging areas, and containers either by hand or with mobile equipment.
• Separate mixed recycled materials and metals, identify higher-grade metal, and remove material that does not meet standards.
• Use and help maintain mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, street sweepers, and water trucks.
• Carry out physical labor with tools including hand tools, torches, banders, chop saws, alligator shears, sawzalls, and wire snips.
• Recognize scrap by grade, type, and any unwanted substances or components.
• Drain fluids from incoming materials or vehicles when needed.
• Handle cleaning tasks for plant equipment and overall housekeeping.
• Support mechanics with equipment and plant maintenance.
• Guide or assist customers and drivers as needed.
• Take on other general labor duties as assigned.

Requirements

• You must be 18 years of age or older.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic ability is required.
• Prior experience with mobile equipment is an advantage.
• You should have solid communication and people skills.
• You need to keep records accurately.
• You must be able to understand and follow spoken and written instructions.
• You should be comfortable climbing ladders or steps to reach items.
• You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• You should work well with coworkers and members of the public.
• This role involves regular exposure to dust, dirt, vibration, and changing weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• A pre-employment background check, physical assessment, and hair drug screening are required.

Compensation and benefits
