Position Summary
The Global Expansion Director is a senior leadership role focused on shaping and delivering an organization’s international growth plan. The position is responsible for finding new markets, planning entry approaches, building commercial relationships, and guiding the launch and scale-up of operations across multiple countries or regions.
This leader partners closely with executive management and teams across sales, marketing, product, operations, finance, legal, and regional leadership to support durable global growth while staying aligned with local rules, market conditions, and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Global expansion strategy
- Create and implement international growth plans that support wider company objectives.
- Research, assess, and rank potential new markets by strategic value.
- Design market-entry approaches such as greenfield launches, partnerships, acquisitions, franchising, licensing, or joint ventures.
- Build long-range roadmaps for expansion across global markets.
International business development
- Develop strategic alliances with distributors, resellers, government bodies, investors, and local partners.
- Lead negotiations for commercial terms and cross-border agreements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in target regions.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic investment activity.
Market analysis and commercial growth
- Carry out competitive research, market assessment, and customer segmentation.
- Shape pricing, localization, and go-to-market plans for each market.
- Track expansion metrics, revenue outcomes, and return on investment.
- Find and develop new revenue opportunities to accelerate international growth.
Cross-functional leadership
- Work in coordination with marketing, sales, product, operations, supply chain, finance, HR, and legal teams.
- Oversee international product launches and ensure operational readiness.
- Align global strategy with execution at the regional level.
- Guide the localization of products, services, brand expression, and customer experience.
Leadership and governance
- Lead regional expansion managers and international business development teams.
- Present business cases and expansion plans to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Own expansion budgets, investment planning, and resource allocation.
- Ensure adherence to international regulations, trade requirements, and corporate governance standards.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, Economics, Marketing, or a closely related discipline is required.
- An MBA is preferred.
- Applicants should bring 10–15+ years of progressive experience in international business development, corporate strategy, market expansion, or commercial leadership.
- Prior experience launching businesses or operations in overseas markets is necessary.
- Strong capability in cross-border negotiation, strategic partnership building, and global operations is expected.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, financial, and intercultural communication skills are essential.
