About the Role

John Rutledge House Inn blends elegance with warmth, bringing together Charleston’s history, hospitality, food, art, and architecture. The Innkeeper/Hotel Manager is responsible for maintaining the property’s premium standard of guest experience, service, and luxury.

Core Areas of Responsibility

This role oversees the Front Desk/Concierge, Bell Staff, Guest Services, and the upkeep of the physical property.

Front Desk and Concierge Oversight

  • Go through daily arrival lists and confirm that guest requests and preferences are handled correctly.
  • Support check-ins and check-outs when needed, and verify reservations made through third parties.
  • Manage internal email communication and outside correspondence.
  • Make sure team members consistently follow service standards.
  • Offer technical assistance for the property management system.
  • Track gift shop stock and office supply inventory.

Bell Staff Oversight

  • Review the daily task list with bell staff.
  • Confirm that service standards are consistently followed.
  • Ensure the social hour gathering space is ready each evening.

Additional Duties

  • Walk the property regularly and note any maintenance or operational issues.
  • Handle bank deposits and review petty cash requests.
  • Record accounts receivable and accounts payable every day, including commission reports.
  • Check attendance logs and prepare payroll reporting.
  • Create monthly spending and expense reports.

Requirements

  • A guest-focused, approachable personality with a strong commitment to excellent service.
  • At least 2 years of management experience in the hotel or hospitality industry, ideally in a luxury setting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across teams while sustaining high performance.
  • Strong organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven skill in leading, coaching, and motivating team members.
  • Comfort using computers, Microsoft Office tools, and reservation or booking software.
  • A bachelor’s degree in hospitality or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Availability for a flexible full-time schedule, including weekends and holidays.
