Job description
Position Overview
The Housekeeper role sits within the Environmental Services department and reports directly to the Environmental Services Director. This full-time onsite position is responsible for helping keep the community clean, safe, organized, and welcoming for residents.
Core Expectations
- Carry out assigned duties in line with company policies and procedures while helping maintain a pleasant environment for residents.
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers and always treat residents with compassion, respect, and dignity in keeping with the Resident Bill of Rights.
- Maintain strong attendance and comply with the facility’s attendance rules as well as the terms of employment outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Provide attentive service to residents and their family members and loved ones.
- Adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
- In emergency situations, severe weather, evacuations, or staffing shortages, the employee may be required to return to work on call.
Housekeeping Duties
- Dust and wax furniture in assigned resident rooms on a daily basis.
- Vacuum assigned areas every day.
- Clean resident bathrooms daily, including the sink, tub, and toilet.
- Replace paper products and restock toilet tissue, facial tissue, and soap as needed.
- Empty wastebaskets in assigned rooms each day.
- Check rooms for maintenance issues such as burned-out light bulbs and report them promptly.
- Remove uncovered food from rooms when necessary.
- Look for unsecured throw rugs and extension cords and report or address concerns as appropriate.
- Ensure resident rooms remain clean at all times.
- Perform sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, buffing, window cleaning, furniture cleaning, floor care, and other general cleaning tasks in public areas.
- Clean public bathrooms daily and empty trash containers regularly.
- Complete other assigned tasks as needed.
Health, Safety, and Physical Requirements
- Provide annual proof of a negative TB skin test.
- Submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, except where a medical or religious accommodation applies.
- Meet the facility’s health standards, including a medical and physical examination.
- Be able to move around intermittently throughout the workday.
- Handle the mental and emotional demands of the position.
- See and hear adequately, either naturally or with prosthetics that restore these senses as needed.
- Be capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally distressed, and occasionally agitated residents.
- Be able to push, pull, move, lift, or carry at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and over a distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to help evacuate residents during emergencies.
