Overview
Vancouver Coastal Health is hiring a Housekeeping Aide to support operations at Whistler Health Centre in Whistler, British Columbia, with coverage for Pemberton Health Centre as well. The role sits within a client- and family-centred care environment and supports a workplace culture built on safety, respect, continuous learning, and better outcomes.
The pay for this position is CAD 25.82 per hour.
What you will do
You will carry out a range of cleaning and environmental services tasks to help maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning healthcare setting. This includes damp dusting, both wet and dry mopping, floor care and refinishing with the right equipment, cleaning and disinfecting ceilings, walls, vents, washrooms, beds, furniture, and equipment, as well as collecting and removing regular waste and biomedical waste. The work also involves spill cleanup, making beds, and keeping the facility clean in line with organizational policies, routines, and procedures.
About the environmental services team
Environmental Services at VCH goes beyond general janitorial work. The team partners with hospital staff and infection control and patient care teams to help protect patients, visitors, and employees through proper medical cleaning and disinfection. Duties cover clinical and non-clinical spaces such as patient rooms, offices, washrooms, and common areas, along with garbage removal, recycling, soiled linen handling, biohazard waste disposal, carpet vacuuming, floor polishing, and surface disinfection.
Education and experience
Applicants should have completed Grade 10 or have an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
The role requires the physical capability to perform the work, strong verbal and written communication, the ability to work well with others, good organization skills, and the ability to use related equipment.
Additional conditions
Work schedules, days off, and assigned work areas may change based on operational needs and in line with the collective agreement and applicable legislation. Selected candidates may need to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
Under Ministry of Health policy, workers in publicly funded healthcare facilities must report prior receipt of certain vaccines or past history of certain infections. This information is collected during onboarding so that any missing vaccines can be offered and appropriate steps can be taken if exposure to a communicable disease or an outbreak occurs.
