Job description

Role overview

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust is hiring two HR Advisors for its People Services Advisory Team on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The role is varied and fast-paced, and sits within a teaching hospital environment. You will support the HR Manager and Senior HR Business Partner while working closely with an assigned division.

What the role involves

You will provide day-to-day operational HR support that is practical, responsive and compliant with employment law and internal policy. The post requires someone who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and handle employee relations and sickness absence matters. You will also contribute to policy creation and review, support people managers, and help strengthen line manager capability across the organisation.

In this role, you will help deliver a high-quality HR service to divisional managers, medical managers and employees, ensuring the service remains efficient, effective and aligned with the Trust’s standards and People Strategy. You may also be involved in Trust-wide HR projects or service developments, and you may deputise for the HR Manager when needed.

About the Trust

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital and community services across the Wigan Borough and nearby areas. The Trust places strong value on staff engagement and works to create an environment where employees are supported and patients receive excellent care. Its values are centered on people, inclusion and teamwork: People at the Heart, Listen and Involve, Kind and Respectful, and ONE Team.

Requirements

Applicants should be qualified to degree level or have equivalent experience, and hold CIPD Graduate membership. Experience gained in a large, complex organisation is required. The Trust may also consider candidates who do not yet hold a full CIPD Level 5 qualification under Annex 21 of the NHS Terms and Conditions, provided they meet the stated criteria.

You should be comfortable working autonomously, managing competing demands, and handling employee relations and absence management cases. Strong HR advisory skills, the ability to provide legally sound guidance, and experience supporting managers in people management matters are important.

Additional information

This appointment is fixed term, though it could become permanent in the future without needing to be re-advertised. The vacancy may close sooner than planned if a high number of suitable applications are received. Agile working is supported, but travel to other Trust sites will be required when necessary.
