Job description

Role overview

The Toronto Transit Commission is looking for an experienced Investigator to join its Investigative Services team. In this role, you will help protect the safety, security, and integrity of TTC customers, staff, facilities, vehicles, and assets.

This position involves a broad mix of investigative work, including matters related to counterfeit fare media and revenue protection, internal criminal and special investigations, surveillance, graffiti enforcement, commuter-parking enforcement, and follow-up on criminal cases. You will collect and assess information, conduct surveillance, gather evidence, build case files, and provide evidence in court or arbitration when required.

You will also work with internal and external stakeholders on shared concerns, support broader organizational priorities, and carry out duties as a Provincial Offences Officer under applicable regulations. Accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and documentation are also key parts of the job.

About the organization

TTC is North America’s third largest transit system and says it is among the top employers in the Greater Toronto Area. Its 2024-2028 corporate plan, Moving Toronto, Connecting Communities, focuses on a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future while supporting safe, reliable, efficient, and accessible public transit.

Work schedule and employment details

This is a regular full-time position with a 40-hour work week. The scheduled days off are Saturday and Sunday, and the shift pattern is various. The role is an existing vacancy based in the Greater Toronto Area.

Requisition ID: 13302. Department: Legal (20000045) - Investigative Services (30000055). Reports to: Manager, Investigative Services. Posted on June 25, 2026, with an application deadline of July 4, 2026.

Qualifications and experience

You should have a college diploma or university degree in a related field, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and work experience. The role also calls for hands-on experience with criminal, internal, or special investigations, plus knowledge of surveillance methods, evidence collection, and enforcement work in a regulatory or law-enforcement setting.

Additional strengths include preparing case files, giving testimony in legal or arbitration environments, identifying fraud or counterfeit items, supporting revenue protection work, working with partners across teams, and producing clear analysis and documentation.

Core expectations

The successful candidate must be able to apply policies and procedures correctly, recognize and reduce health and safety risks, analyze information effectively, communicate across different formats, understand relevant laws and regulations, and bring specialized subject-matter knowledge to the assignment.

Benefits and workplace culture

TTC offers a hybrid working model that combines remote flexibility with purposeful in-person collaboration. Full-time employees are eligible for the TTC defined pension plan and a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and additional coverage. The organization also supports learning and development through training, leadership development, and well-being resources.

TTC emphasizes a workplace culture grounded in diversity, equity, anti-racism, and inclusion, and it welcomes applicants from communities that have faced historical or current barriers, including Indigenous, Black and racialized people, people with disabilities, women, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Hiring conditions and additional notices

Applicants are expected to submit only their own original work and may not use artificial intelligence tools or outside assistance to create application materials or interview responses. Interview questions must not be shared with others. If this rule is breached, TTC may withdraw the application and may bar the candidate from further participation in its hiring process.

Relatives of current TTC employees may not be hired, assigned, transferred, or promoted into roles where a conflict of interest would arise. Candidates selected for an interview must disclose the name, relationship, and position of any current TTC employee who is a relative.

Accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process for applicants with disabilities, and requests are handled confidentially through Talent Management.

TTC notes that only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Equity and accessibility

The organization states that it is committed to accessible, barrier-free recruitment and selection, and to delivering services in line with the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and related TTC policies.
