The company focuses on safe, responsible mining that delivers strong results while contributing to sustainable development. Driven by the values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Performance, and Teamwork, OceanaGold aims to be an organisation people are proud to work for, collaborate with, and invest in.
Role overview
The Macraes IT team is looking for an IT Officer to provide hands-on support across user issues, systems administration, infrastructure upkeep, and local site coverage. The position combines Level 2 support duties with opportunities to build capability in systems administration so the team has dependable backup coverage for essential platforms, especially virtualisation, networking, and databases.
This is a residential role split between the Macraes mine site and the Dunedin city office. The work pattern follows a 9-day fortnight: 5 days on, 2 days off, then 4 days on and 3 days off. Daily hours are 7:00am to 4:30pm.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a Macraes Level 2 support contact while also stepping in to assist Level 1 and Level 3 colleagues when needed.
- Build capability across core systems with the aim of becoming a go-to support person for selected platforms.
- Support internal initiatives and operations-driven projects through to completion.
- Work with the Support Analyst to triage incoming tickets and either resolve, progress, or reassign them through the service process.
- Set up and deploy new systems and IT equipment for the Macraes operation.
- Help keep incidents and service requests moving toward resolution within acceptable timeframes.
- Provide on-site, in-person support when the Support Analyst is working off-site.
- Take part in the Macraes IT after-hours on-call roster.
- Help maintain a dependable on-site hardware fleet, including identifying equipment for proactive replacement and carrying out basic repairs.
- Support the Senior IT Officer with network, database administration, and production system activities.
- Maintain and support physical and virtual servers in collaboration with the wider team.
- Support the IT Supervisor by compiling project progress updates for senior leadership.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a closely related field; equivalent relevant experience is also acceptable.
- A full and current driver licence is required.
- Ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
- Full working rights in New Zealand or an unrestricted work visa is mandatory.
- At least 2 years of experience in a team-based IT support role.
- Exposure to Windows Server and Linux in both physical and virtual environments would be beneficial.
- Experience with Cisco-based network environments would be an advantage.
- Experience supporting SQL Server databases would also be an advantage.
Additional information
This is a residential position based in the Otago region of New Zealand. The schedule includes 2 days per week at the Macraes mine site and 3 days per week in the Dunedin office, within the 9-day fortnight roster described above.
Benefits mentioned for the role include a competitive salary, retail and service discounts, free Southern Cross healthcare insurance, a monthly health and wellbeing allowance, the Living Our Values recognition programme, physiotherapy sessions, study assistance, access to the OceanaGold Employee Assistance Program, and an environment where employees are respected and valued.
Applications close on 28 June 2026, and shortlisting will begin right away. New Zealand work rights are required. OceanaGold is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes a range of perspectives. If support is needed with the application process, candidates may contact [email protected].
