Job description

About the Role

AsiaOne is Singapore’s digital media destination for news, lifestyle, entertainment, and fast-moving stories that people talk about. Operating since 1995, the platform combines sharp reporting with creative formats such as videos, infographics, and comics, and is known for presenting complex topics in a clear, engaging way. Its newsroom is accredited by Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), and the team works quickly to deliver timely coverage that helps audiences understand what is happening and why it matters.

The publication also works with brands on creative, insight-led partnerships, supported by a consumer insights and analytics team.

What the Role Involves

This position calls for a journalist who is comfortable researching widely online and tracking down stories across Singapore. The role is focused on creating content that captures audience attention and becomes part of everyday conversation. The ideal candidate stays current with social media trends, writes and edits confidently, communicates clearly, and builds relationships with useful contacts.

News Coverage

The role requires 3 to 5 years of hands-on newsroom experience. You will identify and report interesting stories from different parts of society, with a style that fits AsiaOne’s distinctive editorial voice.

Additional Information

You should be prepared to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays. The role is suited to someone who can adapt quickly in a fast-paced digital newsroom and contribute across formats when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop original, engaging, and distinctive content ideas with a bold and slightly quirky angle.
  • Use audience data and behaviour insights to shape content that aligns with the wider AsiaOne brand.
  • Cover general news stories, interviews, and events.
  • Occasionally write reviews, features, and commentaries.
  • Create multimedia content packages across multiple platforms.

Requirements

  • At least 3 to 5 years of practical newsroom experience.
  • Strong editorial judgement and the ability to understand what resonates with readers.
  • Self-driven, imaginative, and able to work without close supervision.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced digital news environment.
  • Active on social media and aware of current local and regional news developments.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Helpful if you have worked in digital media, handled social media accounts, or produced video journalism.
  • Ability to read and speak a second or third language.
  • A degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline.

Eligibility

Applicants should be experienced journalists with newsroom exposure, strong English communication skills, and the flexibility to work non-standard schedules. Candidates with multilingual ability and a background in digital or multimedia journalism will be especially well suited.
