Job description
About the Employer
Warakirri Cropping is an Australian-owned broadacre cropping business that places a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and family-friendly values. The group manages more than 155,000 hectares across Australia and operates at significant grain-production scale.
Work Location and Farm Environment
The position is based at Carinup near North Lake Grace in Western Australia. The farm sits about 30 km south of Lake Grace township and extends roughly 15 km south of Pingrup, placing it around 2 hours from Albany and 4 hours from Perth. Lake Grace offers essential services such as a primary school, high school, hospital, and swimming pool.
Carinup is the newest property in the Warakirri Cropping network and covers approximately 16,000 arable hectares. The site has a close-knit team of around 10 full-time employees and is run with a collaborative culture rather than a rigid hierarchy. The manager supports staff who are ready to take on new tasks and build their capability. The farm also makes use of modern machinery, precision agriculture systems, and farm management technology, making it well suited to someone who enjoys both practical farm work and data-led operations.
A flexible commencement date may be possible depending on the successful candidate’s circumstances.
Role Overview
The Junior Assistant Farm Manager will help run day-to-day broadacre cropping operations, support the Farm Manager with performance tracking and coordination, and assist with machinery work, grain handling, staff development, and the use of technology across the farm.
Key Duties
- Plan and coordinate machinery work using GPS guidance, telemetry, and digital planning systems.
- Support precision farming tasks such as variable-rate application and paddock data collection.
- Keep operational records accurate in AgWorld so production performance can be monitored and improved.
- Work with the Farm Manager to assess efficiency, timing, and output during seeding and harvest.
- Help train and guide staff in machinery use, technology adoption, and safe, modern farming methods.
- Operate farm equipment across a range of activities including spraying, paddock preparation, planting, spreading, cartage, and harvest.
- Liaise with outside stakeholders such as contractors and delivery drivers.
- Assist with grain testing, quality recording, and the safe storage and handling of grain during and after harvest.
- Contribute to a supportive learning culture where questions, skill-building, and development are encouraged.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant is someone who is genuinely interested in agricultural technology and enjoys working in a data-informed cropping environment. You should have experience in broadacre farming, ideally in a Senior Farm Hand, Senior Machinery Operator, Leading Hand, or 2IC type role. Prior involvement with large-scale cropping plant and equipment is important.
We are looking for someone who is open to learning, willing to adopt better methods, and comfortable growing their skills within a team. Confidence in mentoring others, strong initiative, and self-motivation are important strengths for this role.
A current chemical users’ certificate is preferred, though the employer is open to helping the right person obtain one. A Class MC driver’s licence is not mandatory but would be an advantage.
What the Employer Offers
- A comfortable family home and a salary package aligned to experience.
- Access to a respected Regional Psychologist Program with a dedicated psychologist visiting each farm every quarter for group and individual sessions.
- A genuine company-wide commitment to safety.
- Strong attention to fatigue control, reasonable work hours, and work-life balance.
- Opportunities to connect with farm teams across Australia to share ideas, learn about equipment, and take part in collaborative events.
- Clear pathways to grow your career on-farm or into broader opportunities within the organisation.
- Strong investment in learning and development at all levels.
- A business committed to sustainability and active action on those commitments.
- Industry-leading parental leave for both primary and secondary caregivers.
