Hickory’s Smokehouse is hiring Kitchen Porters to join its energetic kitchen team in Thornaby-On-Tees. The brand is a fast-expanding UK restaurant group known for authentic American-style barbecue, and this role offers a practical entry into hospitality with training and room to grow. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

What You’ll Do

  • Keep the kitchen clean, safe, and well organised throughout service.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Help maintain excellent hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Work efficiently in a busy, high-volume kitchen setting.
  • Support chefs and collaborate closely with the wider kitchen crew.
  • Build practical hospitality experience through training and progression opportunities.

Why Join Hickory’s

  • Pay of up to £15.71 per hour, which includes tips through the Tip Jar, with tips of up to £3.00 per hour.
  • Access to a £250k purpose-built kitchen fitted with smokers imported from the USA.
  • Structured training and clear routes for career progression.
  • Complimentary team meal during shifts and a birthday meal provided by the company.
  • Christmas Day off.
  • Paid leave for major life events such as weddings, a child’s first day at school, moving into your first home, and similar milestones.
  • Team discount of 25% across Hickory’s, increasing to 50% with long service.
  • 24/7 wellbeing support and a workplace culture focused on work-life balance.
  • Opportunities to support fundraising efforts for Cash For Kids.

About You

You may already have experience as a Kitchen Porter or in another busy kitchen environment, although this is not essential. What matters most is a solid work ethic, pride in cleanliness, a positive mindset, and the ability to work well with others. This role will suit someone seeking consistency, progression, and a healthier balance between work and life.
