Role Summary

The Lead - Projects Substation (Site)-Tx will be accountable for delivering substation projects successfully, with a focus on productivity, schedule adherence, budget discipline, and quality. The role centers on safe execution, strict compliance, and zero-harm practices across all stages of construction and commissioning.

What the Role Involves

This position covers site leadership, project coordination, execution planning, compliance, financial tracking, stakeholder management, risk control, technology adoption, and team coordination for substation works.

Project Execution and Site Control

  • Oversee day-to-day site operations, including project tracking, coordination, execution planning, and supervision of all work activities.
  • Plan and monitor daily site work to keep progress on track, and maintain daily as well as monthly progress updates.
  • Ensure quality controls are in place on site, including material checks, workmanship checks, and compliance with Field Quality Plans for electrical work.
  • Coordinate with the EPC contractor, electrical inspectors, Power Grid, and regional load dispatch centers to support integration and commissioning.
  • Manage monthly RA billing for the company and contractors, and ensure material reconciliation is completed accurately.

Compliance, Safety, and Quality

  • Implement and enforce site safety practices to build and maintain a zero-harm work environment.
  • Ensure all activities comply with statutory, safety, and regulatory requirements, including proper material receipt and handover records.
  • Witness site testing of equipment and certify erection and commissioning test reports as per required standards.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work closely with EPC contractors, service providers, and OEMs to keep project execution smooth and coordinated.
  • Engage with government authorities and local bodies, and coordinate with grid operators and load dispatch centers for substation charging and operational readiness.
  • Maintain regular communication with internal teams to keep project objectives aligned across functions.

Commercial and Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, track expenditure, and monitor cash flow in line with project timelines.
  • Control resource usage, reconcile materials, and ensure billing is handled within budget guidelines.

Risk Management and Improvement

  • Identify project risks early, assess their impact, and apply mitigation actions to reduce delays and disruptions.
  • Conduct safety reviews and audits regularly to support continuous risk reduction.
  • Use project management tools and digital systems to improve tracking, communication, and execution efficiency.
  • Adopt better methods and technologies to streamline workflows and reduce operating costs.

Team Leadership

  • Coordinate the team to create a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and support to encourage teamwork, learning, and a respectful culture.

Internal: P8-M department, Engineering, HO, HODs

External: EPC Contractor, Electrical Inspector, OEM, STU, CTU, SLDC, NRLDC

Eligibility and Experience

Candidates should hold a B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and bring 10 to 15 years of experience in electrical project execution, preferably in substations, power transmission, or energy infrastructure. Of this, 3 to 5 years should be spent on high-voltage substation projects such as 765/400 kV systems.

Applicants should have demonstrated exposure to on-site electrical works, quality control, safety management, and large infrastructure or utility projects. Experience working with contractors, government agencies, and other stakeholders is important, along with familiarity with project management tools and site reporting systems.
