Job description
About the Role
The Department of Education, Western Australia is seeking to establish a pool of Library Officers for permanent and fixed-term positions that may arise throughout the 2026 school year and concluding at the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments can be made at any time for vacancies commencing within this period. Poynter Primary School, located in Duncraig, is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Library Officer to join their team. The school, established in 1980, is situated 15 kilometers from the CBD and near the coast, boasting well-maintained grounds and a strong academic tradition. With 420 students, Poynter PS is known for its quality educational offerings and academic achievements, supported by programs like PEAC and a school-based Higher Order Thinking Skills Program. The school prides itself on being an inclusive, collaborative environment that supports every student's potential and celebrates cultural diversity. The Poynter Way emphasizes inclusive practices and strong partnerships with parents. Ideal candidates will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, promoting the school's values and fostering positive relationships within the school community.
Poynter's library has recently undergone a significant refurbishment and upgrade, set to reopen in Term 3 with modern facilities, new technology, flexible furniture, collaborative spaces, quiet zones, and updated shelving. The P&C is actively supporting the library with a book drive to enhance its collection of new fiction and non-fiction books for all age groups.
The Role
As a Library Officer, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the school library, providing reference assistance, and maintaining the library environment and services to support student learning outcomes. A passion for books and a solid understanding of library systems, processes, and stocktaking procedures are highly desirable. Key responsibilities include managing stocktaking, monitoring the library budget, and contributing to recommendations for new library resources. While knowledge of the Accessit software system is advantageous, it is not essential, as a willingness to learn is highly valued. You will administer library systems to ensure records are current and that library resources are processed and maintained for easy access by students and staff. Strong customer service skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, students, and the parent community. This role also involves coordinating the annual Book Fair during Book Week.
