Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site Litigation Counsel position based in Doha, Qatar. The role centers on handling complex disputes from the first review of a matter through to conclusion. Responsibilities include preparing pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda, developing case strategy, and representing clients before courts and other decision-making bodies. The position also calls for attendance at hearings, management of evidence, and coordination with outside specialists when needed. In addition, the counsel will provide practical guidance on contentious issues, assess legal exposure, and advise clients and internal stakeholders on strategies to prevent or resolve disputes. The role further includes supervising junior lawyers, reviewing their work, contributing to legal research and publications, and supporting business development through client-facing presentations and participation in firm activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle litigation matters end-to-end, starting with case assessment and continuing through final resolution.
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other case-related legal documents.
- Build and execute litigation strategies tailored to each dispute.
- Appear before courts and other adjudicatory forums on behalf of clients.
- Attend hearings, manage evidence, and work with external experts when required.
- Advise clients and internal teams on contentious matters, legal risk, and dispute avoidance or resolution approaches.
- Guide and supervise junior lawyers, including reviewing their work and providing mentorship.
- Contribute to legal research, thought leadership, and publication efforts.
- Support business development through client presentations and participation in firm initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong grounding in law, with significant background in civil and commercial litigation.
- Ability to analyze complex legal questions and translate them into clear, practical advice.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality legal guidance in contentious and pre-contentious situations.
- Substantial court or tribunal experience, including drafting submissions and managing hearings.
- Strong negotiation capability, including settlement discussions and mediation involvement.
- Law degree and admission to practice in a relevant jurisdiction; international or comparative law credentials are an advantage.
- Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills in English; Arabic language ability is highly beneficial.
- Experience mentoring and overseeing junior lawyers in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
- High professional integrity, strong organization, and the ability to juggle multiple matters under pressure.
- Previous experience in a reputable law firm or in-house litigation environment, ideally with regional or cross-border exposure.
