Job Summary
The Maintenance Hand will support the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring all equipment at the Central Processing Centre (CPC) is maintained in clean and good working order. This includes conveyor belts, balers, distribution chutes, forklifts, crates, and strapping machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily equipment inspections, prioritizing necessary tasks and performing routine maintenance such as lubrication and cleaning as per manufacturer guidelines.
- Execute minor repairs on machinery as assigned.
- Perform routine maintenance on forklifts and scales.
- Manage baler wire reloading and regularly inspect/replace lightbulbs, stair treads, and safety tape.
- Identify and report components showing early signs of wear to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain detailed logs of all equipment maintenance performed, both internal and external.
- Assess and diagnose machinery failures and malfunctions, performing emergency repairs when authorized.
- Escalate significant issues promptly to minimize operational downtime.
- Inspect and repair pallets and shipping crates for integrity.
- Perform janitorial duties, including floor sweeping/washing, washroom and break room cleaning, and high-traffic area sanitation.
- Assist with minor facility repairs such as changing light bulbs or touching up paint.
- Operate all building equipment as needed for repair testing.
- Assist other team members and occasionally operate a forklift.
Safety and Loss Prevention
- Promote a safe work environment by adhering to policies and procedures and supporting the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Ensure the safe handling and security of company assets and information.
- Uphold loss prevention procedures and raise awareness among staff.
- Communicate safety and loss prevention concerns to the General Manager.
Additional Information
- This role requires the ability to read and write, with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be mechanically inclined, hands-on, and willing to perform physical tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel is required.
- Familiarity with various tools, test equipment, and service information is essential.
- May require obtaining specific company-paid certifications.
- Frequent written communication via apps and text messaging is expected.
- Forklift training certification is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Occasional travel may be required for business purposes.
- The facility is located in the industrial area of Acheson, west of Edmonton.
