Job Overview

AO Recycling is seeking a proactive Maintenance Handyman to join their Facilities team in Telford, England. This role is crucial for servicing and maintaining all company sites in Telford, with an initial contract period of 6 months. As part of a rapidly growing organization, there will be opportunities for training and development. The position requires a flexible, professional, and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively under pressure. A driving license and personal vehicle are necessary due to the multiple site locations.

About The Role

The Maintenance Handyman will be responsible for the day-to-day facilities management, including carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) and reactive repairs across all AO Recycling sites in Telford. This role involves overseeing approved external contractors, managing site inductions, and handling necessary paperwork. The position also includes operational duties such as operating a Forklift Truck (training provided), assisting with deliveries, and conducting stocktakes of maintenance supplies. A key part of the role involves maintaining an electronic system to log all work and PPMs.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) across company sites.
  • Coordinate and supervise approved external contractors during their on-site work.
  • Conduct site inductions and manage associated documentation.
  • Operate a Forklift Truck, with training provided if necessary.
  • Assist with the movement of deliveries to storage areas.
  • Perform regular stocktakes of maintenance and facilities supplies.
  • Compile a weekly list of required materials for job completion and store replenishment.
  • Execute general repairs including minor brickwork, lighting, door, and lock maintenance.
  • Perform basic carpentry tasks.
  • Maintain washroom facilities.
  • Undertake repairs to slabs, fencing, and landscaping.
  • Carry out painting and decorating tasks.
  • Complete minor plastering jobs.
  • Install office equipment such as whiteboards, shelving, and desks.
  • Ensure all areas are kept clean and well-maintained.
  • Utilize a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for logging all work and PPMs.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance or handyman role.
  • A flexible and positive approach to work.
  • High level of professionalism and confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong task prioritization and deadline management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Basic carpentry skills are desirable.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge is desirable.
  • Basic electrical knowledge is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle.
