Role overview
This position is based in Virginia, County Cavan, and sits within Tirlán’s maintenance function. The role focuses on organising, coordinating, and sequencing all on-site maintenance activity, while also working with outside contractors for repairs and related maintenance work. The successful candidate will manage maintenance teams and external vendors day to day, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Key responsibilities
- Comply with all plant health, safety, and environmental rules at all times.
- Escalate actual or potential hazards to the line manager without delay.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment at all times and refer to the correct SOPs when needed.
- Review and follow the relevant SOPs for every task and ensure full compliance.
- Act as the main point of contact between maintenance and the rest of the plant.
- Receive work requests from departments, check that each request includes all necessary details, and review them with the engineering team.
- Coordinate with production to identify downtime windows for maintenance execution.
- Build preventive maintenance and demand maintenance work into the production schedule.
- Work with the engineering team to plan manpower and resources for safe, timely completion of work.
- Assign and prioritise work orders across individual crafts.
- Define the full scope of maintenance jobs, including repair, preventive, and predictive tasks, and add QA requirements where relevant.
- Carry out field walkdowns when needed to spot hazards and identify permit requirements.
- Determine any special tools or equipment needed for the job.
- Coordinate with stores staff to source or hire parts, equipment, and services required for maintenance work.
- Maintain accurate equipment history and job records.
- Ensure new equipment is entered into the maintenance system and that associated preventive maintenance plans are created.
- Process change control requests for equipment modifications.
- Track, report, and display KPIs related to equipment reliability and maintenance performance.
- Continuously improve planning, scheduling, data handling, and job reporting processes to increase efficiency.
- Prepare maintenance reports for engineering teams on equipment performance over defined periods.
- Distribute the planned maintenance schedule to relevant departments in a timely manner.
- Work with engineering, finance, and stores teams to monitor and control the engineering budget.
- Take part in shutdown planning and preparation meetings and ensure all shutdown work orders are logged and tracked.
- Coordinate contractor activity with engineers and contractors, and issue PMs and DMs for work completed on site.
- Report monthly spend for the area to the engineering team.
- Support the Engineering Manager with budget planning and control.
- Support other engineers with project cost control.
- Adapt to updates in GMP, EHS, technical, new equipment, and quality procedures and SOPs.
- Carry out other duties requested by the direct manager as needed.
Knowledge and experience
- Prior experience with plant maintenance systems is required.
- Strong understanding of plant operations is important.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal ability is needed.
- Comfort with financial tracking and budget awareness is required.
- A flexible, innovative approach to work is expected.
- Self-motivation, energy, and initiative are essential.
- The ability to organise people, drive work forward, and motivate others is important.
