Job description

About the role

This position sits within Environmental Health, Safety (EH&S) and Facilities Services, focusing on environmental health and safety. The manager will own global fleet and road safety efforts, building programs that strengthen compliance, lower risk, and steadily improve transport safety performance. The role works across functions to protect employees, contractors, and the public while supporting business goals through strong risk control and regulatory adherence.

The opportunity is tied to DePuy Synthes and is available across several locations, including Cork, Ireland, as well as sites in the US and the UK. The posting may appear under different requisition numbers for local compliance, and candidates may apply to one or more, with all applications treated as a single submission. Johnson & Johnson also notes its planned separation of the Orthopaedics business, after which the selected employee is expected to become an employee of DePuy Synthes, subject to the completion of the transaction and required approvals and consultations.

Responsibilities

  • Build, roll out, and keep current the global policies, procedures, and standards for fleet and road safety.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions for fleet and road safety events.
  • Review safety data, patterns, and KPIs, then present insights and improvement recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Organize driver training, qualification, and safety awareness initiatives across regions.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation, road safety, and fleet rules at local, regional, and global levels.
  • Work with procurement, operations, and HR on safe vehicle choices, maintenance, and driver management.
  • Contribute to sustainability efforts in fleet operations, including emissions reduction and eco-driving.
  • Take part in EH&S audits and assessments.
  • Coach regional office, delivery, and fleet specialists, along with commercial leaders and teams, through technical training and practical solutions.
  • Help create and coordinate road safety learning modules and regional training delivery.
  • Support crisis management and emergency response activities related to fleet incidents.
  • Represent the organization in external fleet safety forums and industry groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Transportation, or a related discipline.
  • At least 6-8+ years of experience in fleet or road safety management, or in EH&S.

  • Comfort working in cross-regional, cross-sector, and cross-functional environments.
  • Solid analytical and data management capability.
  • Hands-on experience with incident investigation and corrective action processes.
  • Clear communication and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience managing vendors and suppliers strategically.

  • Preferred: experience running global fleet safety programs.
  • Preferred: familiarity with sustainability and emissions reduction approaches.
  • Preferred: certification in road safety or fleet management such as CSP, CSM, or Fleet Safety Certification.
  • Travel is required, with 20-30% travel expected for domestic and international site visits, audits, and training.
  • No people management experience is required.

Perks and benefits

  • Annual bonus opportunity, with the target tied to pay grade and location and the actual amount based on employee and company performance from the prior calendar year, or on sales commissions where applicable.
  • Vacation time.
