Set near Spreckels Park, the library sits at the center of Coronado.
Role Summary
The Marketing Assistant supports the library’s outreach, communications, and promotional efforts. This position helps shape public awareness of library services, programs, and events, and contributes to visual, digital, and print communication materials used across the department.
Key Duties
- Support department communication initiatives and help develop communication plans, procedures, and standards with leadership.
- Build and execute marketing plans for programs, services, and events.
- Share information with the public about department services and initiatives that promote awareness, participation, and equitable access across a diverse community.
- Manage website and social media content, track audience engagement, and reply to public messages and comments; escalate complaints or sensitive issues to leadership.
- Collect and organize photos from events, programs, and projects for use in media, publications, and digital channels.
- Create promotional materials for seasonal and program-related needs such as flyers, posters, invitations, tickets, program sheets, certificates, souvenirs, business cards, and stationery.
- Design layouts for publications, posters, visual presentations, displays, and related communication pieces.
- Produce signs, charts, graphs, posters, and other visual aids.
- Develop two-dimensional and three-dimensional exhibits and displays.
- Prepare mural-sized backdrops, illustrations, props, and similar items for displays, films, slide shows, and live programs.
- Use a range of graphic design software tools and properly archive digital files.
- Track inventory for paper, printing supplies, laminates, and specialty materials.
- Help coordinate special events by contacting vendors for catering, sound, lighting, set design, and other required services.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
Applicants should have a combination of background and training that provides the necessary knowledge and skills. A typical profile includes at least two years of progressively responsible marketing and communications experience, along with an associate degree or certificate in marketing, communication, or graphic design, or an equivalent qualification.
Selection Process
A completed City of Coronado employment application, cover letter, and resume must be submitted to Human Resources by 11:59 PM PST on July 10, 2026. Applications will be screened based on relevant education, training, and experience. Candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to an oral panel interview, which carries 100% of the examination weight. The strongest finalists will then move to a department interview with the Director of Library Services and the Senior Librarian of Programs, Outreach and Marketing.
Additional Information
Candidates who score 70% or higher in each stage of the exam process will be placed on an eligibility list for at least six months. The City of Coronado is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants who need a reasonable accommodation for any part of the examination process may request one up to five working days before the needed accommodation date; supporting documentation may be required.
