The Opportunity

Sunderland AFC is looking for a dependable and committed Matchday Groundsperson to support the team on game days only. This role is suited to someone who wants to be involved in the atmosphere of matchdays without taking on a permanent post. The successful candidate will help prepare the pitch before each match and assist with its care afterwards, making sure the surface is safe, tidy, and presented to a high standard.

Key Duties

In this role, you will carry out essential pitch-preparation and maintenance tasks, including cutting the grass, applying water, marking out lines, and supporting post-match upkeep. You will also be expected to follow health and safety procedures at all times while working to tight matchday schedules.

What We Ask For

The club is seeking someone with a genuine interest in sport and grounds care, along with a strong work ethic and a trustworthy approach. Previous experience in groundskeeping or pitch maintenance would be an advantage, particularly if you are familiar with the tools and methods used in this work. However, training will be provided for the right applicant. Because the role is centred around matchdays, you must be available to work weekends and evenings. The ideal person will be proactive, able to stay focused under pressure, and committed to helping deliver an excellent pitch every time.
