Job description
Role overview
The Materials Planner for Casting supports Tesla production by making sure parts and services reach job sites on time and at the right cost and inventory level. The role requires a strong grasp of Tesla’s supply chain and manufacturing flow, with deep knowledge of the assigned materials or commodities. It is a global, cross-functional planning role focused on inventory strategy, change management, exception handling, supplier coordination, reporting, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Use MRP to publish supply requirements to vendors in a way that supports production, inventory, and cost goals, while meeting demand across all markets.
- Maintain planning system settings and master data so supply plans accurately reflect operational realities.
- Use analysis and supply chain expertise to set inventory and service-level targets, control costs, and reduce obsolescence.
- Develop strong working relationships with suppliers and serve as the main point of contact for delivery updates, issues, and resolution, escalating to commercial, technical, or support teams as needed.
- Help onboard and train new suppliers so they operate in line with Tesla’s supply chain processes and policies.
- Coordinate supplier scale-up and scale-down for product launches so shipment flow supports production targets.
- Prepare clear-to-build updates, material coverage and run-out reports, scenario analyses, and other decision-support materials for the broader business.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of direct experience in materials supply chain management in a manufacturing environment.
- A degree in Supply Chain, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; CPIM or APIC training is an added advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and a solid understanding of discrete manufacturing, bills of material, product lifecycle management, procure-to-pay processes, and supply chain operations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities, especially when working through ambiguous situations.
- Ability to interpret data, make operational recommendations, and communicate findings clearly to leadership.
- Proven capability in managing supplier operations and supplier relationships.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
Benefits
Full-time employees are eligible for Tesla’s benefits starting on day one of employment. The package includes medical coverage with $0 payroll deduction options, family-building/fertility/adoption/surrogacy support, dental and vision plans with $0 paycheck contribution options, employer HSA contributions with eligible high-deductible plans, healthcare and dependent-care FSAs, a 401(k) with employer match, employee stock purchase plans, company-paid basic life and AD&D coverage, short-term and long-term disability insurance after a 90-day waiting period, employee assistance support, sick time and vacation time, paid holidays, backup childcare and parenting resources, voluntary coverage options such as critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident, theft and legal services, and pet insurance, plus weight-loss and tobacco-cessation programs, Tesla Babies, commuter benefits, and employee discounts and perks.
Compensation
The expected annual base pay for this role is $72,000 to $135,000, plus cash and stock awards and benefits. Final pay may differ based on factors such as location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional compensation elements may also be included depending on the offer.
