Role Summary

This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineer position in Dubai. The selected candidate will design and develop HVAC and mechanical systems, choose suitable components, prepare technical drawings and specifications, and complete engineering calculations. The role also includes CAD support, design reviews against applicable standards, participation in R&D for better energy performance and system output, and coordination with project managers, site teams, suppliers, and consultants from concept stage to commissioning. The engineer will also assist with documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and technical support after handover to help maintain system reliability and customer satisfaction.

MEP Design Scope

The position also covers Mechanical Design Engineer – MEP responsibilities, including the development and review of mechanical designs for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems. You will prepare shop drawings, material submittals, and calculation sheets while ensuring all work meets local and international requirements. Close coordination with senior engineers, MEP managers, and site teams will be needed to deliver design inputs and technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce HVAC and mechanical designs aligned with project needs and coordinate drafting support for each assignment.
  • Verify compliance with ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, ADDC, DEWA, ADM, DCD, and ESTIDAMA requirements.
  • Support energy-efficiency studies and design inputs for ESCO-related projects.
  • Prepare and update shop drawings with guidance from the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
  • Compile material submittals and confirm consistency with project specifications.
  • Work with MEP site teams to resolve design queries and clarify execution requirements.
  • Carry out cooling load calculations, ventilation sizing, and smoke management calculations.
  • Perform pipe sizing for plumbing, LPG, drainage, and firefighting systems.
  • Check firefighting pump and tank sizing in line with DCD rules.
  • Help develop BMS control logic and sequences of operation.
  • Coordinate with electrical and ELV engineers to ensure proper control-system integration.
  • Support MEP and construction managers in resolving design-related issues.
  • Prepare technical reports and supporting documentation as needed.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit MEP effectively for design and drafting tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 to 10 years of overall experience in mechanical design for MEP projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a consultancy environment.
  • UAE project experience is mandatory, along with familiarity with local authority approvals and standards.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including chilled water, DX, VRF, AHU, FAHU, and ventilation systems.
  • Ability to perform load calculations and system sizing using ASHRAE, CIBSE, and SMACNA guidance.
  • Experience in plumbing and drainage design for water supply, drainage, and stormwater systems based on UPC, IPC, and local regulations.
  • Capability to coordinate MEP design with electrical and structural disciplines.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP, Elite, Pipe Flow Expert, and CFD tools.
  • Understanding of sustainable design practices, including ESTIDAMA and LEED compliance.
  • Knowledge of ductwork, piping design, pressure drop calculations, and pipe sizing.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Awareness of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, ADM, ADDC, and DEWA approval requirements.
