Our mission is to deliver cost-effective and durable clean energy alternatives to the market, aiming to replace traditional diesel and natural gas generators. With a focus on energy storage and electric vehicle charging, IMS offers a dynamic career path for individuals passionate about contributing to decarbonization and cutting-edge technology.
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role is crucial for supporting the design, analysis, and development of industrial mechanical systems and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical layout design, 3D modeling, and conducting thermal and structural analyses to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and manufacturable.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design mechanical layouts for various assemblies, enclosures, frames, and complete mechanical systems.
- Optimize the placement of components to enhance thermal performance, structural integrity, ease of servicing, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate closely with electrical and systems engineering teams to integrate mechanical designs.
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Prepare manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and tolerance stack-ups.
- Manage design modifications, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and support prototype development efforts.
- Conduct thermal analyses on mechanical assemblies and enclosures to assess heat generation and dissipation.
- Support the design of effective cooling and ventilation systems to keep components within specified temperature limits.
- Validate thermal performance under diverse operating conditions.
- Perform structural and stress analyses on mechanical structures and enclosures.
- Evaluate designs against mechanical loads, including static, dynamic, transportation, and vibration scenarios.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant mechanical and safety standards.
- Generate comprehensive technical documentation, analysis reports, and design justifications.
- Actively participate in design reviews and cross-functional engineering meetings.
- Provide support to manufacturing and quality assurance teams during production and testing phases, ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.
- Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, specifically for industrial or electromechanical products.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency with Autodesk Inventor.
- Exhibit experience with thermal analysis and stress/FEA analysis tools.
- Maintain a solid understanding of fundamental mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with industrial enclosures or power equipment design is advantageous.
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards is required.
- Experience with simulation tools such as thermal, CFD, or FEA is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds and production processes is expected.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capacity to work independently and overcome challenges.
- Demonstrate the ability to thrive in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Be a self-motivated individual and an effective team player.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
Location & Working Conditions
This position is based in our Concord, Ontario office, offering a hybrid work model that combines in-office presence (minimum 3 days per week) with remote flexibility. Occasional travel within North America may be required. Work conditions are typical for a professional office setting. Field and laboratory activities may necessitate the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to additional safety training. The role may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, extended periods of standing, and working in various weather conditions. The ability to sit, stand, kneel, and bend is essential. Some overnight local and regional travel is anticipated, including site visits 1-2 times per month for customer projects.
