Role overview

This is a permanent full-time opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join a leading New Zealand civil engineering business. The role is based in Tauranga, and is open to mechanical engineers from across the world who are interested in relocating to New Zealand for a long-term career.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant has experience working in demanding industrial settings, with exposure to complex, multidisciplinary systems and strong project leadership capability.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the mechanical scope across several projects and work closely with civil and electrical teams as needed.
  • Manage the full delivery of mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, piping, valves, rotating machinery, and process plant.
  • Oversee multiple projects to ensure scope, timeline, budget, and quality targets are met, while keeping accurate cost-to-complete forecasts, procurement plans, and value-for-money assessments.
  • Make sure all work is planned and carried out in line with relevant legislation and project specifications.
  • Lead mechanical completion activities, testing, and commissioning.

Requirements

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree from a tertiary institution recognised under the Washington Accord.
  • At least 5 years of experience delivering mechanical work on projects in water and wastewater, industrial, oil and gas, or process infrastructure environments.
  • Practical knowledge of forecasting, cost control, variations, and claims.
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools such as MS Project and CCS Candy.
  • Strong background in quality assurance, testing, commissioning, and construction completion.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand construction standards and regulations will be an advantage.
